Use this procedure to provision optical channels in Cisco Optical Site Manager. You can configure optical channel parameters, including application codes for supported optics.

Provision Optical Channels involves configuring parameters for optical channels on network cards within DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) systems. The process sets attributes, including:

  • reach

  • forward error correction (FEC) standards

  • transmit power

  • frequency

  • wavelength

  • chromatic dispersion thresholds

  • administrative states

  • application codes for supported optics

Description

Application code support

Cisco Optical Site Manager Release 26.3.1

You can validate application selection codes for supported line cards and optics in Cisco Optical Site Manager. The validation confirms that each code maps to the supported ZR/ZR+ operating mode and related optical parameters, such as line rate, framing, FEC type, modulation format, pulse shape, and modem setting. Supported line cards and optics:

  • NCS1K14-OXP2-K9 line card with DP08SFP8-ZRB-A2 optics

  • QXP line card with DP04QSDD-ULH-A1 optics

EDFA2 PROBE monitoring task indication

Cisco Optical Site Manager Release 26.2.1

Cisco Optical Site Manager highlights the PROBE row and displays an information icon when the PROBE monitoring task is running in Cisco Optical Network Controller. If you edit the frequency or admin state for the PROBE port, Cisco Optical Site Manager displays a confirmation message before applying the change.

This helps prevent accidental changes to frequency or admin state while PROBE monitoring is running.

Use this task to establish and optimize the optical signal path for data transmission across the network. This action enables reliable, high-capacity transport of client signals over the optical infrastructure.

For the NCS1K14-OXP2-K9 line card with DP08SFP8-ZRB-A2 optics and the QXP line card with DP04QSDD-ULH-A1 optics, use an application code to apply the corresponding optical channel settings. Cisco Optical Site Manager displays configured and current values for the application code and the related optical parameters.

Application codes come from the list of modes advertised by the optical module. Configure a supported application code so that the optics can operate in the selected application mode.

Before you begin

Follow these steps to configure the parameters for the optical channels on the card.

Procedure

  1. Click the Provisioning tab.

  2. Click the Optical Channel section to expand it.

  3. Click the Edit button.

  4. Modify the required parameters in the Table 2 table.

If the PROBE monitoring task is running in Cisco Optical Network Controller and you modify Frequency or Admin State for the PROBE port, Cisco Optical Site Manager displays this confirmation message.

Select an application code from the Application Code (Configured/Current) drop-down list. To remove the configured application code, select none.

When you select an application code, Cisco Optical Site Manager applies the supported optical parameters for that code, such as DAC Rate, Bits per symbol, Baud Rate, and Modulation Format. For more details, see Application code values for optical channels.

Select only an application code that is supported by the module. If the application code is not supported, provisioning fails on the device.

    Note

When you select none in the Application Code (Configured/Current) column for the NCS1K14-OXP2-K9 line card with DP08SFP8-ZRB-A2 optics and the QXP line card with DP04QSDD-ULH-A1 optics, Cisco Optical Site Manager removes the Configured value, while retaining the Current value.

  5. Click Apply.

The system saves the changes. The modified optical channel parameters are displayed for the selected card.

When you apply an application code, Cisco Optical Site Manager displays the configured value and the current value from the device. The current value can take up to five minutes to update.

Tx Power (dBm)

Sets the Tx power on the trunk port.

The range is –10.0 to 0.25 dBm.

PSM Info

When enabled on a TXP or MXP trunk port that is connected to a PSM card, it allows fast switching on the cards.

  • NA

  • Disable

Frequency (THz)

Sets the frequency in THz

-

Wavelength (nm)

Displays the wavelength, which is set based on the Frequency.

-

Tx Shutdown

  • true

  • false

Width (GHz)

(Display only)

-

CD (Working Range) High (ps/nm)

Sets the threshold for maximum chromatic dispersion.

-
