The Cisco FS750 Firesight Management Center appliance and Sourcefire Defense Center appliances (DC750, DC1500, and DC3500) require additional memory in order to support the features introduced with Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later.
The Cisco FS750 Firesight Management Center appliance and Sourcefire Defense Center appliances (DC750, DC1500, and DC3500) require additional memory in order to support the features introduced with Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later. The Cisco FS1500 and FS3500 Firesight Management Center appliances are not affected as the memory was increased prior to production release.
Cisco offers a free memory upgrade for affected management platforms in order to support migrations to Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later.
Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later performs a system memory check during the installation process. If the management appliance does not contain a minimum of 8GB memory, the software installation process is prevented until the memory upgrade is performed. This issue is observed on DC750, FP750, and some DC1500 units that have less than 8GB of memory.
For some DC1500 units and all DC3500 units that shipped with 12GB of memory, the software installation process proceeds normally. However, due to the greater memory requirements of Firepower 6.0 and the potential for performance impact, Cisco recommends that you upgrade the memory in these platforms.
Memory Upgrade Promotion
The Cisco FS750 Firesight Management Center appliance and Sourcefire Defense Center appliances (DC750, DC1500, and DC3500) are eligible for a memory upgrade. The memory kits will be provided at no cost and can be installed in the management platform, see Memory Upgrade Instructions. Only one memory upgrade per management appliance will be provided.
For the FS750 and DC750 management appliances, contact the TAC and request quantity one (1) of FS750-MEM-KIT= for each affected appliance through the standard RMA process.
For the DC1500 and DC3500 management appliances, contact the TAC and request quantity one (1) of FS3500-MEM-KIT= for each affected appliance through the standard RMA process.
Notes:
The Cisco FS750 Firesight Management Center appliance and Sourcefire Defense Center appliances (DC750, DC1500, and DC3500) are affected.
You can use any of these methods in order to obtain the chassis serial number and validate your management appliance:
Web User Interface
From the Web User Interface of the affected product, complete these steps:
CLI of the Affected Product
From the CLI of the affected product, enter this information:
admin@Sourcefire3D:~$ sudo -i Password: root@Sourcefire3D:~# ipmitool fru print 0 Chassis Type : Rack Mount Chassis Chassis Part Number : SR1234ABC Chassis Serial : BZPR12345678 Remaining output data follows...
Visual Inspection
The chassis serial number label is located on the exterior surface of the appliance. The chassis serial number can also be referenced on the sales order documentation.
Use the Cisco Serial Number Validation Tool in order to validate your Firesight or Defense Center security appliance serial number(s).
Enter this command from the CLI in order to verify the memory in your management appliance is upgraded to support Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later:
> expert admin:~$ sudo -i Password: root:~# dmidecode --type 17 | grep -i size | grep -v No
The output must show "Size: 8192 MB" for FS750 and DC750 management appliances.
The output must show "Size: 49152 MB" for DC1500 and DC3500 management appliances.
Important Note: Some DC750 management appliances contain non-upgradable memory and are not compatible with Firepower Software Version 6.0 and later. If the first four characters of the DC750 serial number begins with "AZGZ", the management appliance contains non-upgradable memory and is not eligible for the memory upgrade program.
