It keeps all channels at the same Power Spectral Density (PSD) target, ensuring equalized channel power regardless of different input powers. It compensates for changes in span loss over time by adjusting amplifier gain and variable optical attenuator (VOA) attenuation, maintaining stable total transmit and receive power.
