Description of the Release

Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1(1)XD is an ED release (XED). This release introduces two platform models; The AS5400 Access Server and the UBR910 Cable Access Router. All together, this release provides Access support, enhanced voice functionality and more port density. 

The features delivered with this XED release will be immediately incorporated into Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(3)T and subsequent Cisco IOS Software 12.1T releases.

UBR 910 Features
  • Replaces an existing CSU/DSU and telco-provided WAN connection, providing a high-speed WAN connection over CATV coaxial cable. 
  • Fits standard 19-inch and 24-inch rack mounts. 
  • Universal AC-input power supply, with a redundant power supply (RPS) option. 
  • Provides one F-connector to connect to the cable service provider through the CATV coaxial cable.
  • Provides a router interface module with a high-speed Smart Serial interface to connect to the access router that is acting as the gateway for the site's LAN. The Smart Serial interface includes the following features:
    • Serial interfaces include the EIA449, X.21, and V.35 synchronous serial protocols (DCE mode only) and the EIA530 synchronous serial protocol 
    • Supports the HDLC and PPP Layer 2 protocols 
    • Maximum data rate up to 8 Mbps, depending on the access router and serial interface used being used. 
    • The Smart Serial router interface module can connect to the most commonly used WAN interface cards used in Cisco's small and medium-sized business routers, such as the Cisco 1600 series, 1700 series, 2500 series, 2600 series, and 3600 series routers. This allows quick and easy integration of the Cisco uBR910 series DSU into these environments.
    • The router interface module is a field-replaceable unit to simplify servicing and upgrading.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)XD is an X Early Deployment Release. X Early Deployment Releases (XED) as a group are based on Major Releases of Cisco IOS Software. ED Releases are a vehicle to quickly deliver new functionality, addressing the need for early availability of product. These Releases provide new technologies for customers to deploy in a limited manner in their networks. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)XD is a one-time release. 

Target Market

Cisco Systems, Inc. released Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)XD as a short-lived ED release for the Cisco AS5400 and UBR910. It is targeted for the Cable and Telco market.
