Introduces wireless sub-package concepts and guides users through installing, removing, and upgrading wireless packages. Details procedures for sub-package installation, single-step and multi-step methods, stack deployment, upgrading packages, deactivation, and enabling or disabling auto-upgrade functionality.
A wireless sub-package is a component within a network architecture that
-
integrates seamlessly with existing network designs such as multitier, Routed Access, and Virtual Switching System (VSS)
-
uses Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP) for control planes and Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) for overlay data planes
-
maintains wireless control planes through Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) tunnels connecting AP with controllers.
Benefits of the controller
-
Centralized control simplifies configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
-
The controller provides high throughput and distributed forwarding for enhanced network services.
-
The controller facilitates scalable services such as Application Visibility and Control (AVC) without splitting control planes into MC and MA.
Install and activate sub-packages
-
Identify the network nodes that need enhanced wireless capabilities.
-
Deploy the sub-package on top of the base image on the relevant switches.
-
Reload the system to activate the newly installed sub-package.
The sub-package is an optional binary that contains the entire Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller software.
Deployment considerations
-
Provision and deploy Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controller software on Cisco Catalyst 9300 switches using Cisco Catalyst Center. Standalone controller configuration is not supported. For additional information, see Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches Hardware Installation Guide.
-
SNMP Compatibility: SNMP is not supported on Catalyst 9800 Embedded Wireless Controllers.
-
The sub-package contains the complete Cisco Catalyst 9800 software suite, optimally deployed using Cisco Catalyst Center. For more details, see the Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches Hardware Installation Guide.
-
Verify that network configurations and conditions meet operational requirements to achieve optimal performance.
