Module 7: Technical Support Services Portfolio

Advance Replacement

The diagram on the right side of this page illustrates one way to help your customers decide the appropriate level of Advance Replacement support. It is a good idea to keep the following questions in mind as you are leading them through this process:

Does your customer have an onsite engineer, or will they need support from Cisco?
Does your customer need 24-hour support?
How critical is your customer’s equipment to the operation of their network?
Does your customer have spare equipment onsite?

As far as determining if SMARTnet or SMARTnet Onsite is more appropriate, it all comes down to whether or not your customer has their own engineer or other resource internally to replace parts at a given site. If they do have their own resource, recommend that they purchase SMARTnet. If they do not have their own resource, recommend that they purchase SMARTnet Onsite.

Note: SMARTnet 8x5x4 and SMARTnet 24x7x4 are available only if your customer’s distance from a parts depot of an authorized Cisco service location is within the following limits: In the US, within 100 driving miles; in Europe and Canada, within 120 driving kilometers. SMARTnet 24x7x2 is available only if your customer’s distance from a parts depot of Cisco Authorized Location is within 25 driving miles in these select countries: United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Asia.
