Module 5: Software Support
Case Study
It is now time to review a real life example of a Cisco IOS Software
success story. This case study contains a background, initiative,
solution and success. An initiative explains a customer’s
desired improvement or need. Subsequently, the solution is developed
to adhere to the customer’s initiative. Finally, the Result
depicts the achievement of the solution.
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. a specialty retailer based in San Francisco
began as a small, neighborhood shop that was primarily dedicated
to French cookware and cooking techniques. Since then the company
has grown into a $1.4 billion business with more than 300 Williams-Sonoma
stores operating across the United States as well as a mail order
division that delivers more than 155 million catalogs a year. In
addition to these divisions, Williams-Sonoma also expanded its service
to the world wide web, offering an e-commerce site that customers
could use to purchase products online.
A continuous challenge the company faced was finding ways to improve
the online shopping experience for its expanding customer base.
Specifically the amount of items the customers could choose from.
This goal requires leveraging technology and growing the company’s
IT staff.
