Module 5: Software Support

Software Support

Software Support provides Cisco customers with software updates to their network operating system or application software. Depending on the service offering that your customers have selected, this support can apply to:

The Cisco IOS Software running on a customers device and/or network.
Additional Cisco network application software a customer may be using on their network.

As enhancements are made throughout the life cycles of Cisco applications, updates are provided via downloads, maintenance fixes, and patches that can be accessed via the Cisco.com website.

In order for your customers to have access to these updates, they must have an appropriate service offering that provides them with software support for each Cisco software license they have running on their networks. However, many customers may not have this support because:

They may not understand the importance of keeping their software up-to-date.
They may not realize the amount of new features and enhancements that can be included in each update.
They may not understand that the services provided through software support are not included in most Cisco warranties.

Note: “Update" is defined as a Maintenance Release, Minor Release, and/or Major Release, which contains the same configuration as originally acquired.
