Configure VM properties

Perform these steps to configure the properties of the VM when installing Cisco Catalyst 8000V in Nutanix AHV via Prism Central.

Procedure

1.

Log in to the Prism Central dashboard.

2.

In the left navigation, choose Compute > VMs > Create VM.

3.

In the Name field, specify a name for the VM. If desired, provide a description for the VM in the Description field.

4.

From the Project drop-down list, choose the project.

5.

From the Cluster drop-down list, choose the cluster to which you want to add the VM.

6.

Select the Number of VMs.

7.

In the VM Properties field, configure these settings:

  1. CPUs: Enter the number of virtual CPUs to allocate to this VM.

  2. Cores per CPU: Enter the number of cores assigned to each virtual CPU.

  3. Memory: Enter the amount of memory (in GiB) to allocate to this VM.

Click Next to proceed to disk and network settings.


Configure the disk and network settings

Procedure

1.

In the Resources page, click Attach Disk to attach a disk.

2.

In the Attach Disk pop-up window, configure these disk settings:

  1. Type: Select the type of storage device, DISK or CD-ROM, from the drop-down list. Choose Disk for hard disk, CDROM for .iso files, and CD-ROM for bootstrap configuration files.

  2. Operation: Specify whether to create a blank CD-ROM device, allocate space without specifying an image, or clone from an image using this drop-down list.

  3. Storage Container: Choose either the default container or a self-service container.

  4. Capacity: Choose the disk capacity from this drop-down list.

  5. Bus Type: Select the Bus Type based on the Type option you chose. For virtIO, use SCSI as the Bus Type.

Click Save to save the Disk settings.

Click the Attach to Subnet button to attach the VM to a subnet.

In the Attach to Subnet pop-up window, configure these settings:

  1. From the Subnet Name drop-down list, choose the target vLAN.

  2. From the Network Connection State drop-down list, choose the state for the network that you want it to operate in after VM creation. The available options are Connected and Disconnected.

Click Save to save these settings.


Provide custom configuration and create the VM

Perform these steps to configure custom settings while creating the VM during Cisco Catalyst 8000V installation on Nutanix AHV hypervisor using Prism Central.

Procedure

1.

In the Management page, you can assign a category to your VM.

2.

Optionally, choose the Timezone for your VM. If needed, set this VM as the Agent VM to be powered on first.

3.

From the Guest Customization script drop-down field, choose a Script Type for your Startup Script.

4.

From the Configuration Method drop-down field, choose Custom Script if you wish to provide a customized configuration.

5.

Upload or paste your startup configuration in the Startup Script field.

6.

Click Next to go to the Review page and review all your settings.

7.

Click Create VM to create the virtual machine.

8.

To power on the VM, in the web console, choose VM > More Actions > Power Operations > Power On.

After the VM is created and powered on successfully, you can access the VM from the console by navigating to VM > Launch Console.


Verify successful VM installation

To verify that the Cisco Catalyst 8000V instance is successfully deployed on Nutanix AHV and is up and running, perform these steps.

Procedure

1.

Log in to the Prism Central GUI or the Prism Element GUI.

2.

Choose VM > Launch Console to access the VM from the console.

3.

To access the VM through the Cisco Catalyst 8000V command line, run the show platform software system hypervisor command.
