Cisco Emergency Responder Configuration
This chapter provides an overview of how Cisco Emergency Responder was configured for Cisco Unified Communications Release 5.0 testing for IP telephony. This chapter does not include detailed installation and configuration instructions. Rather, it is intended to provide you with guidance and serve as a reference model as you set up the Cisco Emergency Responder in your IP telephony system.
Cisco Emergency Responder was installed on a Cisco MCS 7845-H1 Unified CallManager Appliance and configured according to the instructions in the Cisco Emergency Responder documentation. In general, default or recommended configuration values were used.
One Cisco Emergency Response Server was installed with Cisco Unified CallManager to test interoperability between clusters using various Cisco Unified CallManager releases. One Cisco Emergency Responder server was installed in each Multi-Site Centralized Clustering over the WAN with SRST site.

Note
•
Cisco Emergency Responder supports Cisco SIP.
•
If you deploy third-party SCCP or SIP endpoints, you must manually configure them in Cisco Unified CallManager with their actual MAC addresses. Otherwise, Cisco Emergency responder will not support the physical movement of these devices to other locations.
For detailed information about installing, configuring, and administering Cisco Emergency Responder, refer to the documentation at this URL

CER Groups > Telephony Settings
To access the Cisco Emergency Responder Administration web pages for configuring telephony settings, choose CER Groups > Telephony settings from the Cisco Emergency Responder Administration application. Table 7-2 describes the settings in the Telephony Settings page.
Using McAfee VirusScan 8.0 when an E-Mail Server is Configured
If you configure a mail server in Cisco Emergency Responder, Cisco Emergency Responder communicates with mail server on port 25, which is the default SMTP server port. If you use version 8.0 of McAfee virus scanning software on the Cisco Emergency Responder server, you must unblock communication to port 25 on remote servers. Otherwise, Cisco Emergency Responder will not be able to send e-mail alerts for events that require such alerts.
To unblock communication to this port, follow these steps on the Cisco Emergency Responder server:
Step 1
Click Start > Programs > Network Associates > VirusScan Console.
The VirusScan console appears.
Step 2
Right-click Access Protection and choose Properties.
The Properties window appears.
Step 3
In the Port Blocking tab, uncheck Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail, if this option is checked.
Step 4
Click OK.
Cisco Emergency Responder ERL
The following sections provide an overview of how Cisco Emergency Responder was configured in the ERL menu web pages that you access from Cisco Emergency Responder Administration. It points out selected configuration information that will help you understand how Cisco Emergency Responder was set up to perform most effectively.
ERL > Onsite Alert Settings
Four onsite alerts were configured in Cisco Emergency Responder. Table 7-3 describes how one of the onsite alerts was configured in the Onsite Alert Settings page. You access this page from the Cisco Emergency Responder Administration application by choosing ERL > Onsite Alert settings and selecting the desired Onsite Alert.

•
If you are using a Cisco Unified CallManager group, specify the IP address of the backup Cisco Unified CallManager server in the Backup CTI Manager 2 field.
•
The server identified in the Cisco Unified CallManager field must be running Cisco Unified CallManager and the Cisco Unified CallManager SNMP service. The SNMP service is not activated by default and requires that community string configuration be made in the Windows Services Control Panel before data from the MIB can be read.
