Reason for Advisory:
This software advisory addresses one software issue.
CSCva87230
Upgrade to UCSM software version 2.2(8a) from certain previous versions (see note below) causes backplane port flaps on blade servers
Affected Platforms:
22xx Series IO Modules
2nd or 3rd generation UCS VIC adapters (VIC 1240, VIC 1280, VIC 1340, VIC 1380)
Symptom: Server connectivity goes through down and up transition during the upgrade of Cisco UCSM software. Port-channel IDs assigned to backplane ports (between IOM and VIC adapters) may change following upgrade of Cisco UCSM software 2.2(8a). This causes backplane port reconfiguration and transient traffic loss.
Conditions:
i) Servers with 2nd and 3rd generation UCS VIC adapters on UCS Chassis with 2204/2208 IO Modules
ii) Performing Cisco UCSM upgrade to 2.2(8a) from a release (see note below) which does not contain the fix for CSCuq57142
Workaround: Upgrade Cisco UCSM software to a release with the fix for CSCuq57142. Then, upgrade to 2.2(8a).
Note that the fix for CSCuq57142 is available in the following Cisco UCS Manager software releases:
* 2.2(3k) and later patch levels
* 2.2(6i) and later patch levels
* 2.2(7c) and later patch levels
