Set up various access methods for remote access to meet operational and security requirements.

Use the available access methods to support remote access requirements for operational and security needs.

CV SRA provides two groups of access methods.

After you add a network device and asset, open the asset details, choose Add Access Method, select an access method, and enter the method-specific information. You can also configure an access method through Quick Wizard.

Group

Type

Access methods

Group A

Clientless

SSH, RDP, VNC, Web App, and Telnet.

Group B

Agent-based

SRA Plus, which uses the local SRA Plus application.

Configure an SSH access method

Set up secure SSH connections to manage devices remotely.

SSH is commonly used to provide secure remote CLI access. You may need to enable advanced settings for customizations.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the network device is already added to the system.

  • Obtain valid device credentials of the OT asset.

Procedure

  1. In the Services panel, navigate to SRA > System Management > Network Devices.

  2. In the Network Devices list, click the device name in the Assets table to open the Asset Details page.

  3. Click Add Access Method.

  4. Select SSH from the Access Method list.

  5. Enter the required details in the Add Access Method section and click Add.

SSH is now set as an access method for the selected device; users with the appropriate permissions can initiate secure sessions.

Configure a telnet access method

Add a Telnet access method to a network device for remote management.

Configuring a Telnet access method in CV SRA allows authorized users to initiate terminal sessions with network devices using the Telnet protocol.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the network device is already added as an asset.

Procedure

  1. In the Services panel, click SRA > System Management > Network Devices.

  2. Click the name of the device that is attached to the asset.

  3. In the Assets table, click the desired asset to open its Asset Details page.

  4. Click Add Access Method.

  5. Select Telnet from the Access Method list.

  6. Enter the required details in the Add Access Method section, and click Add.

The Telnet access method is added to the device and available for user assignment through Access Management.

Configure an RDP access method

Set up a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) access method for a managed network device.

Use this procedure to enable secure remote desktop connectivity through your network management system.

Before you begin

  • Verify you have added the desired network device as an Asset.

  • Gather credentials and connection details for the target device.

Procedure

  1. In the Service panel, navigate to SRA > System Management > Network Devices.

  2. In the Assets table, click the device name to open the Asset Details screen.

  3. Click the name of the device that is attached to the asset.

  4. In the Assets table, click the desired asset to open its Asset Details page.

  5. Click Add Access Method, then from the Access Method list, select RDP.

  6. Enter the required details in the Add Access Method section.

  7. In Advanced Settings, complete relevant options as required for your access method.

  8. Click Add.

The device is now configured with an RDP access method, enabling authorized users to establish secure remote desktop sessions according to your defined settings.

Configure a VNC access method

Configure the VNC access method as an optional means to remotely access and manage network device assets. The method uses VNC password authentication through the CV SRA UI.

Use this procedure to set up VNC access for a network device using the CV SRA interface.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the required network devices and assets are added to your system. (See: Add Network Devices and Assets to a group.)

  • Review your VNC server’s vendor documentation to configure the server for use with non-vendor VNC viewers.

  • Set up the VNC access method to use only password authentication; this is the only supported authentication type.

  • If you require other authentication methods (such as username and password), use the CV SRA Plus access method with a local VNC client instead.

Procedure

  1. In the Services panel, go to SRA > System Management > Network Devices.

  2. Click the name of the device that is attached to the asset.

  3. In the Assets table, select the device name to open the Asset Details screen.

  4. Click Add Access Method and from the Access Method list, select VNC.

  5. Enter the required details in the Add Access Method section, and click Add.

The VNC access method is configured for the device, allowing authorized users password-authenticated remote VNC access.

What to do next

Assign user access if needed to ensure authorized remote VNC sessions.

Configure a Web App access method

Add the Web App access method to a device asset so that users can interact with web interfaces securely.

Use this configuration to enable remote access to web servers operating on managed assets within the CV SRA environment.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the target device is already added as an asset.

  • Evaluate the website’s design before using the Web App access method. If the site relies on URL redirects to static IP addresses, redirects may not work properly.

  • Note that websites using websockets may not function correctly through the Web App access method.

  • If unsure whether the Web App access method is suitable, use CV SRA Plus as an alternative for compatibility.

Procedure

  1. In the Services panel, navigate to SRA > System Management > Network Devices.

  2. Select a device name from the Assets table to open its Asset Details page.

  3. Click the name of the device that is attached to the asset.

  4. Click Add Access Method, then from the drop-down list select Web App.

  5. Enter the required details in the Add Access Method section, and click Add.

The Web App access method is successfully added. Users with appropriate permissions can open secure web sessions to the specified URL through the CV SRA environment.

Configure an CV SRA Plus access method

Link your network device, protocol, and user permissions for secure access.

Configure the CV SRA Plus access method in IoT OD to enable secure remote sessions for authorized users.

Before you begin

  • Ensure the CV SRA Plus App is installed.

  • Ensure the asset was added using its IP address, not its hostname.

  • Ensure that no other VPN client is active and that antivirus software does not block the CV SRA Plus application.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to SRA > System Management > Network Devices and select the network device you want to configure.

  2. Click the name of the device that is attached to the asset.

  3. Choose an asset to open its details, then click Add Access Method.

  4. Select SRA Plus from the Access Method list.

  5. Choose a protocol definition and port configuration. Use the filter to display all, custom, or predefined protocol definitions. Legacy CV SRA Plus access methods are read-only.

  6. Optional: Configure the cross-launch settings:

    1. Enter an application cross-launch URL to open a web application for the asset.
    2. Enter an application cross-launch path to launch a local application.
    3. Enter application cross-launch parameters, such as a password, port, or local directory.
  7. Review or edit the prepopulated Access Name and Name. Optionally enter a description of up to 150 characters, and click Add Access Method.

The CV SRA Plus access method is configured and available for authorized users to initiate secure remote sessions.
