Use this workflow when all hosts and managed devices in the upgrade domain are Cisco NCS 1010 or Cisco NCS 1014 platforms.
Upgrade Cisco Optical Site Manager hosts and managed devices together when the upgrade domain contains only Cisco NCS 1010 and Cisco NCS 1014 devices.
Use the same Golden ISO (GISO), including the Cisco Optical Site Manager RPM, for both host and managed devices when possible. A common image simplifies distribution and activation and prevents one image from replacing another on the Cisco Optical Site Manager host.
Procedure
-
Create image distribution groups in the SWIMU application.
Create a separate image distribution group for each Cisco Optical Site Manager host platform, such as one group for Cisco NCS 1010 hosts and another group for Cisco NCS 1014 hosts.
For more details about creating image distribution groups, see Software image management and upgrade.
-
Distribute the target GISO from the external SFTP server.
Create separate image distribution jobs for Cisco NCS 1010 and Cisco NCS 1014. Select the option that downloads the image to both Cisco Optical Site Manager and the devices.
For more details about configuring the SFTP server and distributing software images, see Configure an SFTP server.
-
Verify that image distribution completes successfully and that the correct target image is available on every device.
-
Create the activation group in the SWIMU application.
Create an activation group that contains the devices that must be upgraded together. You can reuse a distribution group when all devices in that distribution group are upgraded together.
For more details about creating software activation groups, see step 4 of Orchestrate software upgrades.
-
Activate the upgrade domain.
Note
If upgrading all Cisco Optical Site Manager sites together is not feasible, upgrade all Cisco Optical Site Manager sites on a given span together. In a Cisco Optical Site Manager high availability deployment, activate both hosts together.
For more details about creating and running software activation jobs, see steo 6 of Orchestrate software upgrades.
-
Verify that the activation job completes successfully and that Cisco Optical Site Manager and the managed devices are upgraded to the target image version.
Optional: Verify on each host that IOS XR runs the target release by using show version, and verify that no install operation is active by using show install request.
-
Synchronize the sites when necessary.
If an activation job reports a failure or retains stale status even though IOS XR and Cisco Optical Site Manager are on the target release, use the Nodes application in Cisco Optical Network Controller to resynchronize the affected Cisco Optical Site Manager nodes.
-
Validate device reachability, topology, alarms, inventory, optical parameters, and service state before completing the maintenance window.
The Cisco NCS 1010 and Cisco NCS 1014 upgrade domain is upgraded and synchronized with Cisco Optical Network Controller.
