Introduction
This chapter provides an introduction to the Cisco WAN Manager (CWM) Release 15.1 and provides an overview of the CWM 15.1 installation and upgrade procedures.
CWM is a software product that provide a rich set of management features for Cisco wide area networks. Cisco CWM can be installed as a CWM server, a CWM client, a standalone CWM statistics manager, or as a standalone CWM statistics collector.
In an operational CWM network management system, there must be at least one CWM server. There may be none, one, or several CWM clients and standalone CWM statistics collectors. CWM Release 15.1 supports integration with the Cisco Info Center so that the two applications can function together.
The CWM Release 15.1 is comprised of a set of software components. Some of these components are Cisco products and some are third party products. Some are provided as part of the CWM package and some the user must obtain from third party sources.
The following table lists the components that make up the CWM 15.1 package.

Note
The basic CWM product is distributed as a two-CD-ROM set.
CD-ROM Number 1 contains the CWM server installation package.
CD-ROM Number 2 contains documentation, Adobe Acrobat, and other tools.
The CWM SNMP Service Agent, the SCMSA, and WANDEST are each distributed on their own CD-ROMs. The SNMP Service Agent CD-ROM also contains the tar file for updating the Cisco Info Center so that it can function with CWM.
CWM Configurations
The installation and upgrade procedures permit the user to install the CWM components in various combinations according to the user's starting point and the desired ending CWM configurations. These two parameters determine which programs or components need to be installed or upgraded and in which sequence.
Table 1-2. provides a brief summary of the installation or upgrade procedures that are involved in each of the starting and ending configuration combinations.
Upgrade Limitations
CWM Release 15.1 can be upgraded from the following releases. Upgrading implies that the existing databases can be converted and used in the upgraded version.
•
CWM Release 15 (latest patch).
•
CWM Release 12 (latest patch).
To upgrade to CWM Release 15.1, users of earlier CWM releases must first upgrade to one of the releases listed above.

Cisco Info Center Product Integration Policy Packs
CWM Release 15.1 includes a Cisco Info Center Product Integration Policy Pack. A policy pack is a software package that can be installed to update the event processing provided by the Cisco Info Center application. Policy packs are provided as necessary when Cisco Info Center processing rules or tools for Cisco WAN Manager events are changed.
The Cisco Info Center Product Integration Policy Pack for CWM Release 15.1 includes a tar file that can be installed using the Cisco Info Center update utility (nco_update). The Product Integration Policy Pack is provided in on the SNMPAgent CD-ROM, in a tar file that the update utility can process.
The update utility is a tool that is used to install new rules, enhancements, and new lookups necessary for CIC to function with CWM Release 15.1.
Install the Cisco Info Center updates for CWM 15.1 on the host that is running the Cisco Info Center RTTrapd Info Mediator.
