Host services and applications are Cisco IOS XR functions that

Install the optional RPM package for a service before you use that service. For example, install the Telnet RPM before you enable Telnet.
Network diagnostic services
Explains how ping, traceroute, enhanced ICMP diagnostics, and ICMP probes test reachability, expose packet paths, and report interface or neighbor status, with tasks for running and configuring each utility.
Domain name services
Explains how Cisco IOS XR resolves hostnames and addresses through static and dynamic cache entries, configured domain names, and DNS servers, and provides a task for configuring and verifying the resolver.
File transfer services
Explains how FTP, TFTP, rcp, and SCP locate and transfer files, and provides tasks for configuring clients, operating a TFTP server, and copying individual files securely.
Router application services
Explains how the router starts network daemons, accepts Telnet sessions, assigns a stable source to syslog traffic, and controls HTTP client connections and protocol behavior.
