||/var consumes excessive disk space and Prime Infrastructure goes down -- /var/log/secure file|
Prime Infrastructure releases earlier than 3.6 can experience a system reboot or shutdown, which causes a loss of service to the customer.
System log messages can grow in size, which causes the /var file system to become full. This results in any of these customer impacting scenarios:
- The Prime Infrastructure application closes and will not restart.
- The Prime Infrastructure application ceases to function (hangs).
- The server shuts down, which requires an application of power to restart.
- The server reboots, which causes an interruption in service.
- System upgrades could cause the upgrade to fail, which results in a nonoperational system.
The customer experiences a loss of service of the Prime Infrastructure application.
The customer is asked to upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 3.6 or later. In order to prevent a failed upgrade and a nonoperational system, customers should check the size of the /var filesystem before they perform the upgrade. Customers can contact Cisco Services to validate the /var filesystem size.
In the interim, customers can contact the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) in order to clean up the /var directory and install a log rotate program to maintain the /var directory.
