Case Study: Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves new stadium on opening day

Building the stadium of the future, today

When the Atlanta Braves baseball team left their longtime home at Turner Field to build a new stadium, Braves IT needed to create a state-of-the-art, digitally enhanced stadium experience. They deployed Cisco solutions: end-to-end networking and Wi-Fi infrastructure, data center, digital signage and analytics, security, and more—along with expert assistance from Cisco Services.

Challenges

  • A network to support thousands of simultaneous Wi-Fi sessions and deliver excellent performance in an extremely dense outdoor environment
  • Siloed retail, security, and food/beverage teams needed a unified technology environment to support the entire stadium
  • Support an increased use of mobile devices for ticket and concessions purchases

Results

  • One network with speeds of 170 Megabits per second serves the stadium and surrounding battery, reliably supporting more than 41,000 visitors and hundreds of critical applications every day
  • Interactive digital kiosks located throughout the property allow fans to browse shops and restaurants and easily find concessions
  • Digital ticketing and payments enable faster lines and remove the need for cash-only entertainment

Cisco Services

Cisco Services helped the Braves design, manage, and maintain its One Network concept. “Having a grand vision is one thing, but to bring it to life, we needed Cisco services. And I could not have accomplished this without them,” said Greg Gatti, chief information officer for the Atlanta Braves.
