FPGA Profile

Want to summarize with AI?

Enables the activation or deactivation of specific software features assisted by field-programmable gate array hardware. This feature optimizes platform resource allocation to support multiple time-sensitive and resilient industrial protocols without requiring physical hardware modifications.

The FPGA Profile is a configuration mechanism that manages the availability of hardware-assisted features on supported switches.

  • Enables efficient allocation of platform resources.

  • Supports multiple time-sensitive and resilient industrial protocols.

  • Operates without requiring hardware changes.

FPGA Profile feature details

The switch supports three FPGA profiles, each with a different combination of features.

Table 1. FPGA Profile configurations

FPGA Profile name

Base switch

System with an IEM-3400 expansion module

Default

Supports one instance of PRP or HSR, one instance of DLR, and CTS IPv4 Security Group Tag, with VRF and Security Group Access Control List Logging.

Supports up to two PRP instances or one HSR ring, two DLR rings, and CTS IPv4 SGT with VRF and SGACL logging.

cts-ipv6

Supports CTS IPv4 and IPv6 SGT with VRF and SGACL Logging.

Supports CTS IPv4 and IPv6 SGT with VRF and SGACL logging.

Redundancy

Supports one instance of PRP or HSR and two instances of DLR.

Supports up to two PRP instances or one HSR ring and three DLR rings.

Note

On a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series Switch with an IEM-3400 expansion module, protocol support varies by FPGA profile:

  1. Default FPGA Profile:

    • Supports two PRP instances or two DLR rings. Configure one PRP instance or one DLR ring on the base switch and the other PRP instance and DLR ring on the expansion module, or vice versa.

    • Supports only one HSR ring. Installing an expansion module does not increase the number of supported HSR rings.

  2. Redundancy FPGA profile:

    • Supports three DLR rings. Configure one DLR ring on the base switch and two DLR rings on the expansion module, or vice versa.
