Provides restrictions and operational requirements for software upgrades and system recovery processes. These guidelines ensure system stability and prevent service interruptions during maintenance activities.
Follow these guidelines when performing system upgrades:
-
Legacy request platform software install commands are supported only for Catalyst 9300 and 9500 workflows and are deprecated as of Cisco IOS XE 16.10.1.
-
Auto-upgrade is disabled by default, is not available in bundle mode, and does not recover a supervisor from ROMMON.
-
Booting from USB or TFTP in install mode is not supported; ROMMON or bundle-mode recovery can use USB or TFTP boot paths.
-
On Catalyst 9400 switches, manually initiate the supervisor CPLD upgrade if mandated in the target release notes; CPLD auto-upgrade is not supported. For other Catalyst 9000 series switches, follow the platform-specific firmware upgrade instructions. Do not perform the Catalyst 9400 switches CPLD procedure in other series of switches.
-
Do not use xFSU if the upgrade requires a microcode or FPGA update, or if the topology does not meet documented uplink requirements.
