1. . What is the SRC Tool?
The Shipment Routing Configurator tool is an innovative Web-based tool that enables you to specify your desired shipping and delivery options for your Cisco orders. The tool replaces the individual case-by-case system with a simplified, more streamlined model that uses defaults preferences to speed the process. You can choose your preferred carrier and service levels by entering your default routing data into the Shipment Routing Configurator.

2. When should my company use the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool?
You can use the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool to define detailed shipping instructions for all your Cisco orders.

3. My company already has provided shipping instructions to Cisco. What happens to our existing shipping instructions?
Your current shipping instructions to Cisco can be easily integrated into the Shipment Routing Configurator tool. The SRC tool offers new features and additional flexibility to help you configure and optimize your shipping instructions.

4. What are the benefits of using the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool?
The Shipment Routing Configurator Tool offers a simplified, streamlined model for setting up default shipping instructions. This eliminates the need to configure shipping instructions for each order. The tool can help you configure valid shipping instructions based on knowledgebases and robust enough to allow for weight and carton breaks, and account number set up.
5. What is a logistics focal?
A focal is an individual from your company who is entitled to enter/edit freight delivery selections. Usually focals are members of your company's logistics organization who have the information and expertise to define your company's shipping guidelines.
6. Who determines my company's focal?
Cisco works with your company to identify your company's logistics focal. Cisco grants focal access and responsibilities to those members of your organization properly defined as logistics contacts. Please contact your Cisco representative if you have questions about who your company's logistics focal is.

The Shipment Routing Configurator has "help" links located throughout the sections to explain concepts and help you make the correct selections. In addition, this website contains a comprehensive user guide and additional frequently asked questions. Cisco Customer Service will work with you to help make sure that your shipping profiles are set up correctly.

2. Do I need to prepare my routing guide before entering it on the tool?

No, but you will need to verify whether your carriers are Cisco-verified (Cisco-verified carriers will appear on the drop-down lists). Contact Cisco Customer Service for additional information.

3. How can I be sure I am entering all the necessary information into the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool?

If you select “Self-Routed,” you would have to select a lane and enter the options, then repeat if desired for other lanes. If you fail to select a key component (for example, the carrier), the Shipment Routing Configurator will display an error message to alert you of the missing information.

4. I have entered and saved lane information for all the distribution centers (DCs), but when I try to book an order in Ordering Tool, I get the error message “SRC Setup Needed” and I don’t see the Billing Self-Routed option.

You must verify the lanes by clicking the “Verify Lanes” button in the Shipment Routing Configurator tool once all configuration information for all the distribution centers has been entered and saved. The Ordering Tool does not recognize lanes in “entered” status.

5. I have verified lanes set up for shipping to Alabama, but when I am creating an order in Ordering Tool, I do not see "Billing Self-Routed" as an option in the Shipping Preference field on the Header Details page. Why is that?

When shipping to locations within the United States, you must setup and verify lanes for ‘United States - Lower 48 States’ for all service levels you want to use.

6. Will the user guide be available in languages other than English?

Yes. The user guide is available in Simplified Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese.

7. Can I copy information from one distribution center to another, or from one lane to another, to avoid repetitive entry?

Yes. The tool has a "Copy lanes" button that allows this functionality. The SRC allows you to copy configurations on three levels:

  • from one service level to another;
  • from one region to another;
  • from one company to another (if you have more than one listed in your profile)

A focal is an individual from your company who is entitled to enter/edit freight delivery information in the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool. Usually focals are members of your company's logistics organization, who possess the knowledge and expertise to define your company's shipping guidelines.

2. Who determines my company's focal?

Cisco grants focal level access to those members of your organization who possess the knowledge and expertise to define your company's shipping guidelines to Cisco.
Focals have the ability to grant focal access to other individuals in your organization.

3. What if my company doesn't have a focal?

If your company has no assigned focals, please contact Cisco Customer Service. A service representative can assist you.

The "Contacts" tab displays the focal contact information for your company.

Carries

The carriers listed for each distribution center are those that conduct business in that region. Not every center will feature every carrier, so it is important to choose one from the list.

2. How will I know whether my carrier is Cisco approved?

The "Carriers" column on the freight lane configuration will display Cisco-approved carriers for each distribution center. If a carrier is not displayed in the list, then it is not a Cisco-approved carrier.

3. How can I get my carrier to be Cisco approved?

Cisco's logistics department has a formal certification process. If you would like your carrier to become Cisco approved, contact your Cisco Customer Service representative, and he or she will submit the carrier for approval.

Service Levels

Cisco recognizes that your orders come in various degrees of urgency. The Shipment Routing Configurator therefore allows you to select carrier and shipping preferences for up to three different levels. For example, you can use one carrier for regular orders and another one for urgent ones.
Service levels are generally defined as:

Standard: Most economical (1-7 business days)
Express: Economical alternative to expedited services (1-3 business days)
Premium (based on availability): Expedited service (1 business day)

1. What is a lane?

A combination of origin and destination points for Cisco products. Customers may specify freight terms and a carrier of choice for orders shipped from a specific location to a destination region. For example, Singapore to San Francisco is a lane. It is also known as a shipping or freight lane.

2. What does lane configuration mean?

Lane configuration refers to the various options you may select for a lane. For example, you can select a carrier, payment terms, and weight/carton break preferences for shipments from point A to point B.

3. What are my options to configure lanes?

You can select “Freight Terms,” “Service Carrier,” “Weight and Carton Breaks,” “Named Place,” and “Duty Payment Responsibility.” You can also enter your account number with a particular carrier and enter additional instructions to be given to the carrier of choice.

4. I entered the correct account number information, but when I tried to verify lanes I received an error message that the account number is invalid.

Please make sure that the account number does not have any spaces or dashes. For example if your account number is ABC-1234 DE, enter it as ABC1234DE.

1. What is a distribution center?

A distribution center is a facility from which goods are distributed. Typical activities include receipt, storage, and shipment of goods.

Yes, the SRC tool will display configurations by distribution center.

3. Will the distribution center be displayed when I use the Order Tool?

The distribution center for the particular shipset in question will be displayed on the Order Tool at the time of order submission.

4. Will there be a distribution center in Miami, since most Latin American shipments are cleared in that city?

No. There are no plans for a distribution center in Miami right now. Latin American customers need to arrange pickup of freight from one of the present distribution center locations.

Cartons and Weight Breaks
  1. Will there be a way for logistics or purchasing to know the weight and dimension of a shipment or shipset?

1. Will there be a way for logistics or purchasing to know the weight and dimension of a shipment or shipset?

Cisco will provide estimates on shipments at the time of submission. These weights should not be considered 100 percent accurate, however, because of possible changes to the status of the order before shipment.

2. Will the SRC tool notify me if there is an overlap when I enter carton and weight break information?

Yes, should there be an overlap between two settings, the Shipment Routing Configurator will display an error message, alerting you to the change that needs to be made.

3. What has precedence if the weight break and carton break have conflicting limits?

Weight break functionality takes precedence on the Shipment Routing Configurator Tool over carton breaks.

4. Will I still be able to know in which manufacturing center a Cisco "part number" is being manufactured?

Manufacturing location information will be irrelevant since customers will be picking up from distribution centers. You can still call your CSS to determine where a part number is manufactured; however, the Shipment Routing Configurator tool is designed so that this call will not be necessary anymore.

Routing Changes

Yes. There will be a "Last Updated By" field, which will contain the name and email and contact numbers for the individuals who have made changes to the freight profile.

Delivery Options

1. What are delivery options?

Delivery options are instructions for the delivery of goods. Please note that Cisco will make every attempt to follow your delivery option instructions. However, not all delivery options are available for all scenarios. For self-routed orders, the delivery option requests will be passed on to the customer's selected carrier.

2. What are some of the common delivery options?

Some of the common delivery options are:

  • Authorized Receiving Party: Party authorized to receive and sign for the cargo or goods.
  • Carrier Will Call: Call carrier when shipment is ready for pickup.
  • Certificate of Origin (General): A document stating the country of origin, manufacture, growth, or production. Countries may require certificates as part of their customs entry process. They are produced by the freight forwarder, consular office, or chamber of commerce.
  • Certificate of Quality: A document certifying that merchandise was in good condition at the time of inspection prior to shipment.
  • Certificate of Quantity: A document stating the quantity of a shipment.
  • Consularization/Legalization: Official certification of the authenticity of signatures or documents in connection with letters of credit, such as certificates of origin, commercial invoice, and other documentation issued by chambers of commerce, consulates, and similar recognized government authorities.
  • Inside Delivery: Instruction to a carrier to deliver cargo beyond the dock, typically to a specific location within a facility.
  • Pre-Shipment Inspection: For certain countries of destination, goods must be inspected in the country of dispatch by an authorized inspection agency. These agencies will verify prices, HTS codes, volumes, and technical standards. Major inspection agencies include SGS, Burean Veritas, and Intertek.
  • Remove Packaging: Instruction to carrier to place unit in a specified location, unpack said unit and remove the packaging from the receiving facility.
  • Special Transport Required: Customer to specify. Includes things like air ride, lift gate, crane, military.
  • Specific Delivery Time: Instruction to carrier to deliver cargo at a specific time on a specific date.
