Troubleshooting Tip
You must wait until the Cisco Unified Presence Sync Agent is active before you can use the Cisco Unified Presence server.
Note This topic only applies to those deployments that do not use DNS.
During installation, if you select not to use DHCP, you must enter a hostname and IP address for the Cisco Unified Presence server. The hostname cannot be null, localhost, or an IP address. The Cisco Unified Presence node name gets its value from the hostname that you enter during installation and it must be resolvable. If you do not use DNS in your deployment, then the Cisco Unified Presence node name is not resolvable. To overcome this, you must change the Cisco Unified Presence node name to be a resolvable value after installation is complete.
For information about how to change the Cisco Unified Presence node name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence.
During installation, if you select not to use DHCP, you must enter a hostname and IP address for the Cisco Unified Presence server. The hostname cannot be null, localhost, or an IP address. The Cisco Unified Presence node name gets its value by concatenating the DNS domain to this hostname to form a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). This FQDN must be resolvable. If you do not use DNS in your deployment, then the Cisco Unified Presence node name will be set to the specified IP address.
For information about how to change the Cisco Unified Presence node name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence.
Note This topic only applies to those deployments that do not use DNS.
If your Cisco Unified Presence deployment does not use DNS, the proxy domain name is set to DOMAIN.NOT.SET during installation. Cisco recommends that you change this value to the enterprise domain value after installation is complete.
Before you change the domain name, you must stop the following services on all nodes in the cluster:
•Cisco UP Presence Engine—select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Feature Services.
•Cisco UP Proxy—select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Feature Services.
•Cisco UP XCP Router—select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Network Services.
For information about how to change the default proxy domain name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence.
After you change the default domain name, you can restart the Cisco UP Presence Engine, Cisco UP Proxy and Cisco UP XCP Router services.
Immediately following a fresh installation of Cisco Unified Presence, the system defaults to Evaluation mode for 90 days. This is a trial assessment period, during which:
•an organization can run a Cisco Unified Presence server without requiring a server license, and
•users in that organization, who are already configured on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, can access Cisco Unified Presence and be configured to use Cisco Jabber, without requiring the necessary user licenses (DLUs)
See Licensing Modes for more information about the trial evaluation period.
To move Cisco Unified Presence to Production mode before or after the trial evaluation period ends, you must obtain the correct license files and upload them to Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unified Presence.
•Obtain Server and User License Files
•Upload User Licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager
•Assign the Licensing Capabilities on Cisco Unified Communications Manager
