Cisco Systems announces the end of sale and end of life for the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (IDS) Director. Version 2.2.3 will be the final release of Cisco Secure IDS Director. The last day to order is December 31, 2002. Customers will continue to receive support for this product from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until December 31, 2005. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones and dates for the Cisco Secure IDS Director.

Customers interested in managing their Cisco IDS Sensor environments are encouraged to migrate to the CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution (VMS). Starting with CiscoWorks VMS 2.1, the CiscoWorks Management Center for IDS Sensors and CiscoWorks Monitoring Center for Security are new modules that provide enhanced IDS management functions and ease of use.

The centers provide Cisco customers with a more scalable security foundation, offering browser access to related information on network intrusions, and providing enhanced reporting capabilities.

For smaller sensor deployments, customers can also consider using the Cisco IDS Device Manager and Cisco IDS Event Viewer. These embedded tools are shipped with Cisco Secure IDS Sensor software at no additional cost. More information is available at:

Cisco will discontinue new feature development for Cisco Secure IDS Director software concurrent with this announcement. Customers interested in support for new devices or Cisco Secure IDS Sensor versions 4.0 or later can find that support in CiscoWorks VMS and the embedded Cisco IDS Device Manager and Cisco IDS Event Viewer.
