Cisco Router Web Setup Tool
Simple Setup for
Cisco 827 ADSL Routers

The Cisco Router Web Setup tool provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for configuring Cisco 827 ADSL routers, allowing users to set up the router quickly and easily. Users without knowledge of how to configure a Cisco 827 ADSL router with the Cisco IOS® command-line interface (CLI) can use the Cisco Router Web Setup tool to configure the router in just a few simple steps. With this tool, Cisco 800 series customers can leverage the power of Cisco IOS Software without the technical skills typically needed for router configuration. The Cisco Router Web Setup tool allows users to accomplish the following:

  • Simplified Setup

  • Implementation of Advanced Configuration Features

  • Router Security

  • Router Monitoring

Simplified Setup

Users can configure a Cisco 827 in just a few simple steps, without technical expertise. Users connect provided cables and power on the router, then point a browser to the router. They then provide individual information, and choose a configuration. The setup tool completes the configuration process, sending the working config to the router.

Advanced Configuration Features

Beyond providing a basic working configuration, users can also set up additional advanced configurable functions. This provides users with network flexibility and increased functionality in the following areas:

  • NAT/PAT

  • DHCP server/relay

  • Firewall

  • Voice over IP dial plans

Router Security

When establishing an always-on broadband connection, network administrators must address network security. The Cisco 827 provides many security features that can prevent unauthorized access to the router and network. The Cisco Router Web Setup tool allows users to assign a name and password to the router, further protecting the router's configuration from being tampered with. Additionally, administrators can enable Network Address Translation (NAT), which effectively allows users on the LAN to share one common public IP address. The router assigns private addresses, keeping individual users from being seen by the outside world. The tool also enables the use of an optional stateful inspection firewall, and users can determine what types of outbound application traffic can be blocked.

Router Monitoring

Users can take advantage of this feature to monitor the router through a browser.

  • Interface Summary—Shows user how the LAN and WAN ports are configured and if the ports are active (up or down)

  • System Information—Provides details on which Cisco IOS image the router is running, how much memory/Flash is installed, and so on

  • DSL Statistics—Explains all information about the ATM interface, up/down, errors, IP address, and so on

  • Show Commands—Allows users with knowledge of the Cisco IOS command-line interface to enter IOS SHOW commands such as: show running config, show tech, show ip, and so on
