Detailed Information

New Hardware

Single Port Multiline (Four-Wire) G.SHDSL WIC

Supported Platforms: Cisco 1721, 1751/1751-V, and 1760 Series routers; supported in `y7' legacy images, and all cross-platform images.

A single port multiline Multirate Symmetrical High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (G.SHDSL) WAN interface card (WIC), or WIC-1SHDSL-V2. provides G.SHDSL feature support for Two-Wire Mode and Four-Wire Mode for SHDSL on the Cisco 1700 Series Modular Access Routers. The WIC-1SHDSL-V2 incorporates the 2.x firmware version and the latest hybrid circuit from Globespan.

New Software Features

Configurable "KeepAlive" Behavior for Dead Peer Detection

Supported Platforms: Cisco 831, 836, and 837 Series Routers; All Images

Dead Peer Detection (DPD) is our "keepalive" protocol for Internet Key Exchange (IKE). keepalive packets are not sent if traffic is received. This lowers the overhead associated with DPD, since on a heavily loaded network very few keepalive packets will be sent because traffic is being received on the tunnels. In addition, DPD sends keepalive packets only if there is user traffic to send (and no user traffic is received). This was done to be consistent with the relevant Request for Comments (RFC) and to try to keep keepalive traffic (and hence overhead) to a minimum.

In this release, a new command line interface (CLI) command is added. It allows the user to configure IKE DPD so that DPD sends the keepalive packets whether or not there is outbound user data. That is, as long as there is no inbound user data, the keepalive packets will besent at the configured keepalive interval.

If the new command is not configured, the DPD keepalive behavior will be unchanged from the current implementation (keepalive packets will only be sent if there is outbound user traffic and no inbound traffic).

For more detail on DPD "keepalive" protocol please see: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/products_user_guide_chapter09186a008015cffb.html#1018981

SMNP v3

Supported Platforms: Cisco 828, 831, 836, and 837 Series Routers; All Images

Baseline IPv6

Supported Platforms: Cisco 831, 836, and 837 Series Routers; Plus Images Only

Support of the baseline initiatives IPv6 features—providing IPv6 support to all Cisco 830 Series platforms. Further details in release notes.

Baseline QoS

Supported Platforms: Cisco 831, 836, and 837 Series Routers; All Images

Support of the baseline initiative for QoS, enhancing and testing further QoS features to support all applicable baseline advanced QoS—features in all Cisco 830 Series platforms. Further details in release notes.

Nokia Interoperability for Cisco SOHO 96 and 836 Series Routers

Interoperability with DSLAMs from Nokia, four and port line-cards in annex-B mode.

CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIBfor CiscoWorks

Supported Platforms: Cisco 828, 831, 836, and 837 Series Routers; All Images

This is a MIB that allows for CiscoWorks to manipulate configuration, more precisely get and put configurations to a Cisco IOS Software device.

L2TP Voluntary Tunneling (Client-Initiated L2TP support)

Supported Platforms: Cisco SOHO 91,SOHO 96, and SOHO 97 Series Routers; All Images

With support of the L2TP client feature, the Cisco SOHO 90 Series routers can initiate an L2TP session to L2TP network server (LNS) situated on the network. The Point-Point Protocol (PPP) session will be terminated on the LNS.

This feature allows for easier management since the existing PPP infrastructure concepts can be used.

Lucent Stinger Interoperability

Supported Platforms: Cisco SOHO 96, and 836 Series Routers

Interoperability with DSLAMs from Lucent with ETSI encapsulation.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(4)XG Memory Requirements and Product Numbers
