Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and 12.3T Feature Sets for Cisco 1700 Series Routers
This product bulletin details changes to the Cisco IOS® Software packaging for Cisco® 1700 Series access routers. It also introduces eight new cross-platform feature sets in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and 12.3T. In addition, this is an end-of-sale notification for a number of feature sets.
Note: This product bulletin covers the packaging of capabilities into feature sets. It does not cover individual new features. For information about new features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and 12.3T, refer to the Cisco IOS Software pages on cisco.com.
Overview
Beginning with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and 12.3T, the Cisco 1700 Series platforms will offer eight new Cisco cross-platform feature sets (Table 1). The feature sets are introduced as an alternative to classic feature sets in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline. Customers deploying Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline are encouraged to migrate to the cross-platform feature sets, but this is optional. Customers planning or expecting deployment of new features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T are strongly encouraged to understand and evaluate the new cross-platform feature sets because they will be the vehicles for new feature delivery.

The following Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline feature sets will be available for the Cisco 1710 Security Access Router and the Cisco 1720, 1721, 1750, 1751, 1751-V, 1760, and 1760-V modular access routers (Table 2).

End-of-Sale Feature Sets in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and Suggested Migration Paths
Table 3 lists Cisco IOS Software feature sets that will be discontinued in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline, and suggested migration paths. It should be noted that other active release trains continue to issue maintenance releases of these feature sets. The end of sale applies only to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline and subsequent 12.3T release trains.
SMARTnet support and other support contracts are transferable from an end-of-sale image to any image suggested as a migration path.

Introduction of New Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Cross-Platform Feature Sets
The cross-platform feature sets (Table 4) are tailored to ease the choice of feature sets in a multiplatform environment. They are initially available for Cisco 1700 Series access routers, Cisco 2600 Series multiservice routers, the Cisco 2691 Multiservice Platform, and Cisco 3725 and 3745 multiservice access routers. They provide feature combinations based on customer feedback. In addition, the cross-platform feature sets simplify the image-selection process by providing similar capability across platform boundaries.

The suggested migration paths are high-level directions for customers migrating from classic feature sets to the cross-platform feature sets introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3 Mainline.
