End of Sales and End of Engineering for Cisco IOS Software Releases 12.2DX and 12.2DD
This document describes the End of Sales (EOS) and End of Engineering (EOE) for Cisco IOS® Software Releases 12.2DX and 12.2DD on the Cisco 7200 and 7400 Series routers. It also outlines suggested migration paths for customers currently using these releases.
When a Cisco IOS Software Release reaches End of Sales, it is no longer orderable. When a release reaches End of Engineering, no further maintenance releases are scheduled. Cisco Systems will continue to provide support for Cisco IOS Releases 12.2DX and 12.2DD for a period of 36 months after EOS. Support will include general product information, configuration support, collection of relevant technical problem identification information, filtration of non-technical problems from technical problems, problem isolation and product specification defect determination, action plan definition, and analysis of traces.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2DX EOS and EOE
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2DX is scheduled to reach End of Sales with maintenance release 12.2(1)DX, and will no longer be orderable as of December 31, 2002. Note that Release 12.2DX images will remain posted on CCO after EOS, though they will no longer be orderable with new systems. Release 12.2DX will reach End of Engineering with maintenance release 12.2(1)DX.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2DD EOS and EOE
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2DD is scheduled to reach End of Sales with maintenance release 12.2(2)DD, and will no longer be orderable as of December 31, 2002. Note that Release 12.2DD images will remain posted on CCO after EOS, though they will no longer be orderable with new systems. Release 12.2DD will reach End of Engineering with maintenance release 12.2(2)DD.
Migrating from Releases 12.2DX and 12.2DD
If all required features and hardware are supported, evaluate Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2B, which is the preferred migration path and broadband release for the Cisco 7200 and 7400 Series routers. Release 12.2(4)B contains 12.2DX and 12.2DD features and hardware support along with new features and functionality.

Customers requiring additional features and hardware not available in Release 12.2B should evaluate Cisco IOS Release 12.2T. Release 12.2(13)T also contains 12.2DX and 12.2DD features and hardware support in addition to new hardware and software features.

Before Migrating to a New Release
Before deploying a Cisco IOS software release in a production network, always consult appropriate product-specific documentation, release notes, hardware/software compatibility matrices, and field notices, refer to the online defect tracking system, and perform acceptance testing in your own test environment.
Refer to Release Notes
Before deploying a Cisco IOS software release, always refer to its release notes to confirm all appropriate features, interfaces, and platforms are supported, and to understand any caveats with a particular maintenance release. Often, a particular maintenance release (or later) may be required for your application, as indicated by the release notes.
