Cisco IOS X-Release 12.2(2)XB

Introduction

This Product Bulletin describes the content and delivery information concerning Cisco IOS(TM) software release 12.2(2)XB. It should be used in conjunction with Product Bulletin titled, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2T. 12.2(2)XB is a short lived Early Deployment (ED) release parented to 12.2(2)T and supporting Cisco 2420, 2600, 2660, 3620, 3640, 3660, 7200, AS5300, AS5350, AS5400, AS5800, AS5850, mc3810, SLT, and URM. This release contains all new features delivered in 12.2 up to 12.2(4)T.

The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into Cisco IOS 12.2(9)T (except the support on AS5300, AS5350, AS5400, AS5800 and AS5850 platforms), and subsequent Cisco IOS 12.2T releases. The AS5300, AS5350, AS5400, AS5800 and AS5850 supports for features delivered by this released will be incorporated into the last maintenance release of Cisco IOS 12.2T It is important to note that there are no planned maintenance releases for this ED release. In addition, please note the migration path to the latest T release. Customers should prepare to upgrade using this migration path.


New Features in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(2)XB

The following platform support will be delivered in the initial release of 12.2(2)XB.

2420, 2600, 2660, 3620, 3640, 3660, 7200, AS5300, AS5350, AS5400, AS5800, AS5850, mc3810, SLT, and URM.

New Features

The new features included in this release are:

  • SIP INVITE Request with Malformed Via Header -Enable a response to an INVITE which has a malformed field



  • 2600 AAL2/AAL5 VWIC and 3660 IMA AAL2 Software SAR Support - The Cisco 2600 and 3660 router series have been enhanced with a software-based SAR to provide AAL2 voice and AAL5 functionality. With the addition of AAL2 and AAL5 support on the Cisco 2600 with T1/E1 VWICs, and the 3660 with T1 IMA



  • DTMF Relay for SIP calls Using Named Telephone Events - The AVT tones support feature request for Cisco VoIP Gateways and end-points is to be implemented according to section 3 of RFC 2833 "RTP Payload for DTMF Digits, Telephony Tones and Telephony Signals" developed by the IETF Audio/Video Transport (AVT) Working Group.



  • SIP Gateway Support for Bind Command - The feature addresses the issue found on Cisco IOS gateways - the source address of a packet going out of the gateway is not deterministic. The session protocols/VoIP layers depend on the IP layer to give the best local address ( Use ip_best_local_address api) and then use the address for source address in signaling or media or both, even if there could be multiple interfaces supporting a route to destination address.



  • Call Transfer Capablilities Using the Refer Method - SIP Call Transfer using the Refer Method in accordance with draft-ietf-sip-cc-transfer-04



  • H323/SS7 Voice on AS5850 - Adds support for H323/SS7 voice on AS5850 platform. Features setinclude TCL 2.0 IVR, SS7, 2CT3s or 1344 voice port per RSC, TDM hairpining, CEF/dCEF packet switching, and call admissioncontrol. It will also has the initial universal port conceptwith mix voice/data resource pool management.



  • MGCP 1.0 with NCS 1.0 and TGCP 1.0 Profiles - Today IOS gateways supports MGCP 0.1 draft published on Nov 9, 1998. Since then MGCP protocol has made it to informational RFC-2705. In addition, Packet Cable has published it's profile of MGCP 1.0 for residential gateway (NCS 1.0) and trunking gateway (TGCP 1.0). This project implements MGCP 1.0 (RFC-2705), NCS 1.0, and TGCP 1.0.



  • Configurable PSTN Cause Code to SIP Response Mapping - This feature provides the ability to customize cause code mapping that would deviate from the standard RFC2543 mapping. Customers have requested this ability. The default mapping is implemented according to standard.



  • SIP T.38 Fax Relay - T.38 is an ITU standard which specifies the transmission of faxes, in real-time, between two standard Group 3 fax terminals communicating over the IP networks based on H.323. Recently, ITU has released T.38 Annex-D to standardize the implementation of T.38 over IP networks supporting the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). There is also additional IETF activity to advance the standards work in this area



  • SIP Intra-gateway Hairpinning - SIP Hairpinning is a call routing capability in which an incoming call on a specific gateway is signalled through the IP network and back out on the same gateway. This can be a PSTN call routed into the IP network and back out to the PSTN over the same gateway.



  • AIM-Voice-30 - 30 Channel T1/E1 Digital Voice module, AIM-ATM-Voice-30 - SAR and 30 Channel T1/E1 Digital Voice module AIM-Voice-30: - The AIM-Voice-30 supports digital voice processing, terminating up to 30 VoIP, VOFR voice/fax channels. This AIM is used in combination with one of the T1/E1 Voice/WAN interface cards (VWIC-MFT) to provide connection the PBX and / or PSTN. By using the AIM and WIC slot for voice processing, Cisco 2600 slot efficiency is improved enabling the network module slot to be used for non-voice functions. The AIM-Voice-30 is designed to function in any of the Cisco 2600 family of routers and the Cisco 366x router platforms. The AIM-ATM-Voice-30 is designed to function in any of the Cisco 2600 family of routers and the Cisco 366x router platforms.



  • SIP Gateway support of RSVP and "tel" URL - There are currently two major target markets for SIP. The first market is Advanced Service Providers (ASPs) providing value added services such as voice recognition, click to dial and find me/follow me. The second category involves traditional service providers as well as Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) offering managed business services such as call hold, call transfer, three way calling, and call forwarding.



  • Full functionality long pound - Enables TCL IVR 2.0 scripts to terminate a call in the setup/alerting stage and initiate a new call.



  • RFC2782 Compliance for DNS SRV - RFC 2052 obsoleted by RFC2782: SIP SPI on Cisco's VoIP Gateways uses DNS SRV query to determine the IP address from the FQDN of the Proxy or Redirect Server. The query string used has the prefix "protocol.transport" will now change to "_protocol._transport"



  • Simple Network-enabled Auto Provisioning (SNAP) allows Service Providers to auto install Cisco IAD 2400s - This system will allow service provider (e.g. CLEC) customers to rapidly deploy and configure services to IAD devices with little or no on site technician intervention.



  • Cisco Gateway Management Agent (CGMA) - CGMA is a real time XML TCP/IP interface. Call state transactions and health of the GWs are sent to a NMS application outside the GW in real time. An XML based message is defined to carry this information over a TCP socket.



  • SIP T.37 and Cisco Fax - Support for T.37 and Cisco Fax with SIP



  • Particle drivers on 5400 and high performance motherboard - A collection of features to improve the performance and reliability of the AS5400. These features include new packet drivers that are now particles based to improve performance, ECC error correction and Dual Watchdog Timers for improved reliability, and an upgraded CPU and L3 cache for improved performance.



  • MGCP VoIP CAC consists of RSVP CAC, System Resource check CAC, and RTR CAC. - MGCP Call Admission Control is comprised of:

    • Local CAC (AKA System CAC) - ability to gracefully refuse calls based on local call processing resources; guarantee resources for duration of call.

    • Synchronization with Reservation Protocol (RSVP) - ability to reserve bandwidth across IP network using RSVP and refuse calls if such end to end bandwidth is not available

    • Network Congestion Detection (AKA Response Time Reporter "RTR") - accept/refuse calls based on measured congestion on IP network



  • Fax for Cisco IOS VoiceXML - Provides single number voice and fax services on VoiceXML-enabled platforms.



  • RADIUS Packet of Disconnect - Packet of disconnect function that allows a RADIUS authorization application to terminate an in-progress call.



  • 1- and 2- Port V.90 Modem WICs for Cisco 2600 and 3600 Series - 1- and 2- Port V.90 Modem WICs for Cisco 2600 and Cisco 3600 Series Multiservice Platforms for remote router management and dial back-up



  • 24 Port T1 Trunk Card for Cisco AS5850 Universal Gateway - Creates a dual use E1/T1 interface for Cisco's AS5850 Universal Access Gateway.



  • SIP functionality on AS5850



  • NAS package for MGCP - Universal Port support in MGCP environment with NAS package





  • VoIP Session Protocols (SGCP, MGCP & TGCP) from the 5300 IOS platform to the new 5400 IOS



  • UBR+ and ATM Enhancements for Service Provider Integrated Access - Implements the UBR+ (UBR+MDCR), MDCR Over-subscription, and proportional bandwidth allocation among UBR+ and UBR for T1/E1 or ADSL ATM interfaces on 3810 and 2600 series router platforms.



  • RSC Handover Redundancy on the Cisco AS5850 - To eliminate a single point of failure in the AS5850 system, a second RSC is added and runs in a load-sharing mode. If one of the RSCs fails for any reason, the other RSC takes over the resources (feature boards) previously controlled by the failed RSC. All active and in-progress calls being handled by the failed RSC are dropped during the switchover. Handback is achieved manually.



  • URM (Universal Router Module) - An IOS card that can be plugged into currently released IGX products. It will allow voice and routing functionality within the IGX box itself.



  • GKTMP Security Token Enhancement - Allows passing of cleartokens up to the RouteServer and then down to the endpoints from the RouteServer



  • GKTMP Interface Resiliency Enhancement - GKTMP Interface Enhancements include Server Failure Detection & Flow Control, Display of Server Statistics, Registration Synchronization and Addition of Billing Parameters to REQUEST DRQ



  • ISDN and V.120 Support For Nextport DSPs - This feature allows the 5850 and 5400 to terminate more than 256 ISDN sessions per CT3 when operating in SS7 environments.



  • MGCP IETF DTMF Relay & T.38 Fax Relay Turandot T.37 fax & single number voice and fax access - This feature provides capabilities on IOS voice gateways to reliably transmit fax and DTMF in an MGCP network. It provides enhancement to the existing proprietary DTMF and fax pass-through implementations by supporting IETF RFC2833 and T.38 standards, respectively.T.38 is a real-time Group 3 Fax over IP standard that enhances reliability of fax transmission and reduces overall bandwidth requirements. Support for RFC-2833 provides a standardized method of DTMF transmission based on telephony events. RFC-2833 facilitates interoperability with third party platforms including, but not limited to voice mail, unified messaging, voice gateways, and media servers.



  • T.37 Store and Forward Fax - T.37 Store and Forward fax, single number for subscriber voicemail and fax access, and real-time fax fallback to store and forward fax



  • IOS Telephony Services - IP-Keyswitch - The IP Key-switch function integrates call processing in IOS for enterprise branch offices or for service provider managed services for Small Medium Businesses. Customers that use Cisco 2600 or 3600 series multi-service routers can now add this capability by a simple IOS software upgrade, and provide integrated telephony services for IP phones such as the Cisco Telecaster 79xx. A rich set of phone features are also supported such as forwarding, transfer, hold, multi-line appearance, etc. The IP Key-switch function will support upto 48 phones per IOS device depending on the platform.



  • Survivability Remote Site Telephony - Enterprise customers wishing to deploy IP telephony at their branch offices using a centralized Call Manager architecture are very interested in call-processing redundancy capabilities at these remote sites. Such redundancy ensures negligible impact to the business incase a Wide Area Network outage prevents the centralized Call Manager from being able to process telephony requests from IP phones at the branch office. The Survivable Remote Site Telephony feature integrates call processing capability directly into IOS, enabling the 2600 or 3600 series router at the branch office to provide telephony redundancy.



  • Cisco Voice over IP Solutions: This release has been solution tested for various VoIP configurations which integrate the supported Cisco components to provide H.323 with SS7, as well as H323/SIP co-existence for ITSPs and IXCs.
