Cisco IOS X-Release 12.1(5)YI

Introduction

This Product Bulletin describes the content and delivery information concerning Cisco IOS(TM) software release 12.1(5)YI. 12.1(5)YI is a Early Deployment (ED) release parented to 12.1(5)T and supporting the Catalyst 4224 Access Gateway Switch. 

The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be incorporated into Cisco IOS 12.2(9)T and subsequent Cisco IOS 12.2(X)T releases.

The following new features are supported on the Catalyst 4224 in release 12.1(5)YI:

• IPX Protocol

Novell IPX

Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) is the NetWare Layer 3 protocol used to route packets through interconnected networks. IPX specifies a connectionless datagram, similar to the IP packet of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks.

IPX network addresses consist of two parts: a network number and a node number. The IPX network number is assigned by the network administrator; the node number is usually the Media Access Control (MAC) address for a network interface in the end node.

IPX exchanges routing information using RIP, a dynamic distance-vector routing protocol. With the release of NetWare 3.12 and 4.x, Novell added support for NLSP, a link-state routing protocol.

IBM SNA

The Catalyst 4224 now supports the following IBM SNA features:

• DLSw
• Async
• Bisync
• STUN
