This release contains all new features delivered in 12.1up to 12.1.(1)T.
The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into Cisco IOS 12.1(3)T and subsequent Cisco IOS 12.1(3)T releases. It is important to note that there are no planned maintenance releases for this ED release. In addition, please note the migration path to the latest T release. Customers should prepare to upgrade using this migration path.
The following features will be delivered in the initial release of 12.1(1)XE.

MGCP for FXS & FXO
Please see the next section for documents that address details on these new features. Any ED release of software should be utilized first in a test network before being deployed in a production network.
The Cisco VG200 is designed to provide easy integration between Voice over IP (VoIP) network resources, especially the Cisco IP Telephony solution, and the public switched telephone system (PSTN). The current release of the Cisco VG200 gateways provides the following main features:
- 10/100Base-T Ethernet connection for connecting to VoIP network resources
- Support for one-slot or two-slot analog or digital voice network modules, useable with the Foreign Exchange Station (FXS), Foreign Exchange Office (FX0), and T1 voice interface cards (VICs).
- Support for the Media Gateway Control Procotol (MGCP) when used with the analog voice network module and Cisco CallManager Release 3.0 or other MGCP call agents.
- Support for the H.323 standard when used with the digital voice network module and H.323 end points.
This release supports FXS and FXO via MGCP, and T1-CAS via H.323v2, but the reverse is not true. It specifically does not support FXS and FXO via H.323v2, and likewise, does not support T1-CAS via MGCP. (Later releases are planned to support these and other combinations of protocols and interfaces.)
Support for MGCP includes the integration and testing with Cisco CallManager 3.0 and higher. It includes not only the basic MGCP call setup procedures, but also support for CallManager Failover scenarios, with user selectable options for revertive switching back to the Primary CallManager upon recovery.

Although the VG200 uses IOS and hardware based on router technology, it is important to note that the VG200 is not a router, and cannot be upgraded to become one. It's role is simply to provide VoIP Gateway functions, typically with IP Telephony applications.
