Milestone Dates for Cisco IOS
Software Release 12.1T

This Product Bulletin serves as the formal notification of the End of Sales, End of Engineering and End of Life for Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1T.

End of Sales

The End of Sales (EOS) date for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1T is scheduled for January 31, 2002 for all supported platforms, except for the Cisco 1700, 2600, and 3600 Series platforms. Software images for these platforms are scheduled to go EOS on September 30, 2002.

Software releases reaching EOS are no longer orderable, but still available to customers under maintenance contract for downloading from the Cisco Connection Online (CCO) and Field Service Operations (FSO). Software defects found in this release may be addressed in Release 12.2 maintenance releases.

End of Engineering

Release 12.1T reached End of Engineering (EOE) with release 12.1(5)T on November 27, 2000.

The technology release 12.1(5)T is the last scheduled release for the Release 12.1T train. New technology releases for Release 12.1T are no longer scheduled. The EOE release continues to be available through CCO and Field Service Operation (FSO) Web sites until End of Life. Software defects found in this release may be addressed in later releases.

End of Life

The End of Life (EOL) date for Cisco IOS software 12.1T is tentatively scheduled for November 30, 2003.

After the EOL date, support will no longer be provided for this release and the release will no longer be downloadable from CCO or FSO.

Upgrade Path

Customers are recommended to upgrade to the latest version of Cisco IOS software Release 12.2 or 12.2T. Release 12.2 provides the same functionality as Release 12.1T, but with a higher level of end-to-end testing within various network environments. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2T is an Early Deployment Release and provides the same functionality as Release 12.2, plus new features and enhancements in all areas of Cisco IOS software: IP routing and services, Security, Connectivity & Scalability, Voice, and Management. Release 12.2T is expected to be available by 4Q FY 2001.

When upgrading to a more recent release, certain software images may no longer be available, hardware platforms may no longer be supported, or there may be may be changes to memory requirements. Cisco customers with current SMARTnet Onsite or SMARTnet contracts can upgrade to the latest version of the Cisco IOS Software as part of their service contracts.
