RLAN External Module

External module

The External Module feature is a traffic management capability that

  • enables traffic to flow in and out from the Cisco Aironet Developer Platform module

  • operates when an access point (AP) is in both local and flex connect mode, and

  • provides connectivity for external platform modules through the AP infrastructure.

Requirement: Prerequisites for configuring external module

Before you begin, you must ensure the following:

  • The external module is powered on.

  • The RLAN status is enabled.

Configure external module (GUI)

This task allows you to configure external module settings through the graphical user interface by creating policy tag mappings that associate RLAN profiles and policy profiles with external module ports.

Before you begin

Follow these steps to configure external module using GUI:

Procedure

Step 1

Choose Configuration > Tags & Profiles > Tags.

Step 2

In the Policy tab, select one of the Policy Tag Name and click Add.

Step 3

In Add Policy Tag page and RLAN-POLICY Maps section, click Add.

Step 4

From the Port ID drop-down list, choose ext-module.

Step 5

From the RLAN Profile drop-down list, choose an RLAN profile.

Step 6

From the RLAN Policy Profile drop-down list, choose an RLAN policy profile.

Step 7

Click the check mark icon.

The external module is configured with the selected RLAN profile and policy profile through the policy tag mapping.

Configure external module (CLI)

Configure external module settings to enable remote LAN functionality on wireless devices.
External modules provide additional capabilities for remote LAN connectivity in wireless networks. This configuration assigns policy tags and remote LAN policies to external modules.

Procedure

Step 1

Enter global configuration mode.

Example:

Device# configure terminal

Step 2

Configure a policy tag to the external module for the remote LAN.

Example:

Device(config)# wireless tag policy default-policy-tag

Step 3

Configure a remote LAN policy to the external module.

Example:

Device(default-policy-tag)# remote-lan rlan-profile policy rlan-policy ext-module

Example:

Device(default-policy-tag)# remote-lan rlan policy abc ext-module

The external module is now configured with the specified policy tag and remote LAN policy, enabling remote LAN functionality.

External module verification

Verify external module configuration and inventory details using show commands.

To view the external module remote LAN configuration, use the following command:

Device# show ap name ap_name lan port summary

LAN Port status for AP ap_name

Port ID status vlanId poe power-level RLAN
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ext-module Enabled 39 NA NA Enabled

To view the external module inventory details, use the following command:

Device# show ap name abc inventory
