Bias-Free Language

The documentation set for this product strives to use bias-free language. For the purposes of this documentation set, bias-free is defined as language that does not imply discrimination based on age, disability, gender, racial identity, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and intersectionality. Exceptions may be present in the documentation due to language that is hardcoded in the user interfaces of the product software, language used based on RFP documentation, or language that is used by a referenced third-party product. Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node Firmware, Release 6.0

The Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node is the latest PCIe resource node for the UCS X-Series Modular System. It delivers high-performance GPU support for workloads such as generative and agentic AI fine-tuning, inference, and other applications that require GPU acceleration.

The Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node supports up to four PCIe GPUs. It can be paired with the Cisco UCS M8 and M7 servers. The X580p uses Cisco UCS X-Fabric technology for GPU connectivity.

Note: The Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node is compatible only with the Cisco UCS X9516 X-Fabric Module.

The Cisco UCS X580p occupies 2 node slots in the X9508 chassis, and each 7RU Cisco UCS X9508 chassis supports up to 2 PCIe nodes. Each X580p node supports a maximum of 4 GPUs and allows assignment of 1, 2, or 4 GPUs to a single server. Alternatively, you can assign 1 or 2 GPUs each to 2 separate servers, provided that all GPUs assigned to a single server are of the same type.

Note: Assigning 3 GPUs to a single server is not supported.

For more information, see Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node Installation and Service Guide and Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node Spec Sheet.

Minimum firmware requirements for support of X580p PCIe node

     X580p PCIe node firmware: 6.0(1.252044)

     X9508 chassis firmware: 6.0(1.252044)

     Cisco UCS X-Series M8 server firmware: 6.0(1.252039)

     Cisco UCS X-Series M7 server firmware: 6.0(2.260040)

Note: To enable support for X580p PCIe Node on Cisco UCS X210c M7 Compute Node, both a chassis firmware upgrade to version 6.0(2.260042) and a Cisco UCS X580p PCIe Node firmware upgrade to version 6.0(2.260043) must be performed.

     Fabric Interconnect infrastructure firmware: 6.0(1.250229)

Note: The X580p PCIe node firmware images and the X9508 chassis firmware images are available as separate bundles.

Description

Workaround

First Version Affected

CSCWs93770

On the Cisco UCS X580p, enabling two Up Stream Ports (USPs) on a single PCIe switch causes resource conflicts during power cycles, triggering Unmasked Uncorrectable Errors, PCIe PERR events, and potential system crashes. This risk increases with the number of enabled Gen5 Down Stream Ports (DSPs).

Ensure that only one USP is connected to a PCIe switch at any given time.

Adhere to the following valid configuration guidelines:

Configure Server A CPU1 with all PCIe DSPs and Server B CPU2 with all PCIe DSPs (or vice versa).

Alternatively, assign all PCIe DSPs to CPU1 and CPU2 of a single server, while ensuring the other server has no DSPs mapped and its USP is explicitly disabled.

Always disable the USP for any server that does not have DSPs mapped to it.
