Participant display name behavior on Cisco TelePresence MCU family of products

This article applies to the following products:

  • Cisco TelePresence MCU 4200 Series
  • Cisco TelePresence MCU 4500 Series
  • Cisco TelePresence MCU 5300 Series
  • Cisco TelePresence MCU MSE Series

Display name behavior

As of version 4.3 of the software for Cisco TelePresence MCU Series products, it is possible to change the display name for a SIP participant during a call. The name that the MCU displays can be taken from any of a number of different fields, which may be included with SIP reINVITE or UPDATE messages.

When the MCU receives a new display name candidate for a participant then, provided that the candidate is higher up the order of preference than the current display name, it uses the new candidate as the display name for that participant. The new display name is used on the particpant's pane in the conference layout and wherever the participant's name is shown on the web interface (after refresh).

The MCU will change the display name to show the new Remote-Party-ID (RPID) if it receives that field in the message. Similarly, a message with a new Asserted Identity field (PAI) will cause the MCU to change the displayed name for that participant.

Order of preference

If the MCU receives multiple candidates for the display name from the remote party, it will choose one according to the following order of preference. The order of preference introduced in MCU version 4.3(1.68) has been changed in 4.3(2.30) onwards. This order is also subject to change in future versions.

MCU 4.3(2.30) and later MCU 4.3(1.68), 4.3(2.17) and 4.3(2.18)

** 4.3(2.30) and 4.3(2.32) software versions suffered from an issue (CSCuf45702) where the MCU did not choose the display name correctly if the PAI display name was present. This is resolved in 4.4 release.
