SNMP MIBs

SNMP MIBs are management information modules that

  • define objects that network management systems can query on Cisco NCS 1001,

  • enable platform and system monitoring functions, and

  • provide trap definitions for alarms reported through SNMP.

For details about supported Management Information Bases (MIBs) and related documentation, see SNMP MIBs supported on NCS 1001.

Supported SNMP MIBs

These MIBs are supported on NCS 1001:

  • CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB

  • CISCO-CONFIG-MAN-MIB

  • CISCO-FLASH-MIB

  • CISCO-ENTITY-REDUNDANCY-MIB

  • CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB

  • CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-MIB

  • EVENT-MIB

  • DISMAN-EXPRESSION-MIB

  • CISCO-FTP-CLIENT-MIB

  • NOTIFICATION-LOG-MIB

  • CISCO-RF-MIB

  • CISCO-TCP-MIB

  • UDP-MIB

  • CISCO-OTN-IF-MIB

  • CISCO-ENHANCED-MEMPOOL-MIB

  • CISCO-PROCESS-MIB

  • CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB

  • ENTITY-MIB

  • CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB

  • CISCO-IF-EXTENSION-MIB

  • RMON-MIB

  • CISCO-OPTICAL-MIB

  • CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB

Note

CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB contains the SNMP traps for all the specific NCS 1001 alarms that are not related to other platforms. These alarms are reported through SNMP traps with appropriate severity and hardware port notification. Other MIBs such as CISCO-OPTICAL-MIB contains the SNMP traps for alarms that can also be raised on other platforms, for example, NCS 1002.

SNMP MIB documentation resources

Determine the MIB definitions

For details about MIB definitions, see SNMP Object Navigator.

Configure SNMP

For details about SNMP configuration, see Configure SNMP.

Understand SNMP best practices

For details about the recommended order of SNMP query, maximum cache hit, and SNMP retry and timeout recommendations, see SNMP Best Practices.

Configure SNMP traps

Enable SNMP traps for optical OTS alarms when Cisco NCS 1001 specific alarms must be reported to an SNMP management system.

CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB contains SNMP traps for Cisco NCS 1001 specific alarms that are not related to other platforms.

Procedure

Step 1

Enter the configuration mode.

Example:

configure

Step 2

Use the snmp-server traps optical-ots command to enable optical OTS SNMP traps.

Example:

snmp-server traps optical-ots

Step 3

Commit the configuration.

Optical OTS SNMP traps are enabled, and the committed configuration reports relevant Cisco NCS 1001 alarms through SNMP.

What to do next

Verify that the SNMP management system receives trap notifications for the expected alarm conditions.
