Cisco Evolved Programmable Network Manager, Release 8.1.2
Cisco Evolved Programmable Network Manager, Release 8.1.2
Cisco Evolved Programmable Network Manager (Cisco EPN Manager) Release 8.1.2 is a patch update aimed at improving overall stability and performance. This release includes new enhancement features and bug fixes that address expanded hardware and operating system support, improved service provisioning and configuration validation.
This section lists the new features introduced in this release for Cisco EPN Manager.
Table 1. New software features for Cisco EPN Manager, Release 8.1.2
| Product impact |
Feature |
Description |
| Ease of Use |
Remote Network Element (NE) log collection |
The Cisco EPN Manager GUI supports the generation of logs on the NE and allows for their remote transfer to the client PC. This eliminates the need for manual log retrieval by enabling seamless remote log access. Log files are transferred using the encrypted Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) for security. This feature works with NCS 4200 series routers on models 4201, 4202, 4206, and 4216 that are running IOS XE version 17.15.4 or any later version. |
| Ease of Use |
Improved low Rx power warning threshold alarm |
The warning alarm now triggers when the power level rises above the low Rx power alarm threshold but remains below the warning threshold. |
| Ease of Use |
Tunnel bandwidth modification protection |
This enhancement prevents reducing a tunnel’s bandwidth below the total bandwidth of underlying pseudowires. When such a change is attempted, an error message warns of potential traffic impact, allowing you to proceed knowingly or cancel the modification. This ensures bandwidth settings remain aligned with current traffic demands. |
| Ease of Use |
Image details verification for software distribution |
The image details verification step checks available space on both active and standby bootflash partitions before initiating software distribution. This prevents distribution failures by ensuring sufficient space exists on both bootflash locations. Additionally, the verification dropdown menu includes the standby bootflash as a selectable option. |
| Ease of Use |
Automated description fields for Circuit Emulation (CEM) circuit configuration |
The service creation process for CEM circuits includes description fields in the generated pseudowire and xconnect context configurations, matching the existing behavior for MPLS-TE pseudowires. This eliminates the need for manual CLI edits to add descriptions under the interface pseudowire sections. |
| Ease of Use |
Description field support across multiple interface types |
A description field is available for T1/E1, T3/E3, SDH and SONET interfaces. You can add descriptions directly within the interface, which are then pushed to the network elements and visible via CLI. This enhancement leverages underlying Cisco IOS XE device support for description fields across TDM and optical transport configurations. |
| Ease of Use |
Informational banner for Software Image Management (SWIM) interface |
The SWIM interface now includes an informational banner that provides guidance on device selection and availability. |
| Ease of Use |
Configuration and restore job validation for NCS 4200 series routers |
The configuration and restore job verifies that the NCS4200 router has achieved Stateful Switchover (SSO) state before marking the job as successful. Previously, jobs were marked successful immediately upon device reachability post-reboot, without confirming redundancy readiness. This enhancement ensures accurate job status reporting. |
| Ease of Use |
Service support for CEM provisioning |
A new Transport Overhead Tunnelling service type is now available for CEM. This supports service profiles, promotion, and force delete operations. Key capabilities include:
● Support on IOS-XE 4200 platform
● Dynamic transport tunnel overhead type selection based on the controller type
● Support for both managed and unmanaged devices with transport overhead tunnelling-specific field display
● Protected tunnel overhead type modification to prevent service disruption while allowing other field edits

Guidelines and limitations
This section lists the guidelines and limitations for this release of Cisco EPN Manager.
● When provisioning unsupported alien wavelengths such as CIM8-C-K9 through Cisco Transport Controller, Cisco EPN Manager shows the alien wavelength and TxP control mode correctly. However, the trunk rate and Forward Error Correction (FEC) mode may show default values rather than the configured settings.
● It is recommended to use general descriptive text when adding interface descriptions via the CLI and to avoid terms that are also CLI parameters, such as "rate" or "clock," as these may interfere with internal parsing logic and impact visibility. This approach ensures that ports and interface data continue to be displayed in Cisco EPN Manager.
