SAN JOSE, Calif. – On July 31, 2017, Cisco acquired Observable Networks, Inc., a privately held company based in St. Louis, MO. Observable Networks offers cloud-native network forensics security applications delivered as a service. The company’s technology is based on dynamic behavioral modeling of all devices on the network.

Customers are looking for ways to improve their network visibility, security and incident response across their entire IT surface, including highly distributed branch environments and public cloud infrastructures.

With Cisco's secure, intelligent network, we are creating technology that responds to this need—technology that is intuitive from inception and continues to evolve and learn over time.

Observable Networks' solutions help security analysts gain real-time situational awareness of all users, devices and traffic on the network. Their cloud-native machine learning techniques for device modeling identifies insider and external threats faster and more accurately. This design supports cloud environments and enables turn-key activation for customers using Amazon Web Services and Azure.

Cisco’s vision is an intuitive network that anticipates actions, stops security threats in their tracks, and continues to evolve and learn. Achieving this requires total visibility in the network.

Customers will benefit from the industry’s most comprehensive integrated portfolio offering comprehensive network visibility for:

  • Advanced threat detection capabilities that spans across the network for effective security: simple, open, and automated.
  • Fully automated, real-time analysis of device-level network traffic and patterns of communication throughout the network, from datacenter to cloud.
  • High fidelity security alerts, enabling smarter security actions.
  • Immense scalability that reduces the need for appliances or agents to solve any gaps in network visibility.

The acquisition of Observable Networks supports Cisco’s strategic transition toward software-centric solutions. Together, Cisco and Observable Networks will extend our Stealthwatch solution into the cloud with highly scalable behavior analytics and comprehensive visibility.

The Observable Networks team will join the Security Business Group led by David Ulevitch.
