Note that this page is a supplement to the Cisco Privacy Statement. In order to understand the data collection and use practices relevant for a particular site or solution, you should read both the Cisco Privacy Statement and any applicable supplement.
The following describes our practices with respect to the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi service, which includes any Cisco-authored apps that are part of this service (the "Service").
Collection and Use of Information
In order to use the Service, you must register online at http://www.linksyssmartwifi.com. As part of the registration process, we ask you to supply us with your name, language preference, email address and password (collectively "Personal Information"). This Personal Information is used to process your registration, set up the Service, communicate with you about Service features and streamline future Service updates. If you do not provide the requested Personal Information, you will not be able to access or use the Service.
As part of the Service registration process, you can also opt in to having your router product registration information sent to Cisco's product registration database. This helps streamline the registration process for your router in the event you need to contact us for support, and saves you the extra step of having to register your router separately. You can also opt in to receiving marketing information about other Cisco products by email as part of the Service registration process.
We may send you email notifications about various features in the Service. For example, if the Service detects a certain device in your network, we may send you an email asking if you would like to take advantage of a feature that will prioritize that device so that content is downloaded faster to that device than to other devices in your network. These email notifications will let you choose to take advantage of such new features. If you would not like to receive emails about a particular feature, you can unsubscribe to receiving emails about that feature by clicking the "Unsubscribe" button in the email. If you Unsubscribe, you will no longer receive email notifications about that feature, but you may still receive emails about other features or about the Service in general. We will keep track of your preferences so that you do not receive emails about features you have told us you don't want to be notified about.
You may have the opportunity to opt in to receive information about upcoming products and features of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi that are specific to your network. If you do not opt in to receive such tailored information, your version of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi will provide you with generic information about upcoming features or products. Tailored or generic information will appear in a separate box within the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi user interface.
In addition, if you contact Cisco for technical support, Cisco may collect and store information regarding your network configuration and usage as part of the technical networking support provided to you. As part of our technical support procedures, the Cisco support representative may ask you for Personal Information about you and information about your home network, as well as financial information if there is a fee associated with the support. We record technical support sessions for internal training purposes and retain the recorded sessions for as long as appropriate for legitimate business purposes. You can end a technical support session at any time.
Access to and Accuracy of Your Personal Information
You can access and update your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi profile by signing into your online account at http://www.linksyssmartwifi.com.
Storage and Security of Personal Information
Personal Information such as the user's name, language preference, email address and password are stored in the Service's systems, where it is protected from unauthorized access by a combination of technical and other measures. Such Personal Information may also be stored on the user's computer or mobile device utilized with the Service, with the Service password stored in encrypted form and other Personal Information stored unencrypted. It is important to note, therefore, that if you use the Service from a computer or device that can be accessed by others, such others may be able to access such information. If you do not want your unencrypted Personal Information to be available to other users, do not use the Service on a public computer or device or any other computer or device to which users unauthorized by you may have access.
Third Party Developed Applications ("Third Party Apps")
The Service features Third Party Apps that are developed by third parties. Cisco offers access to these Third Party Apps to enhance your use of the Service.
In general, Cisco will not provide or share any Personal Information with the developers or owners of the Third Party Apps without your consent.
These Third Party Apps may provide additional services that work within the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi infrastructure, such as enhanced parental controls, media players and viewers, and network status monitoring. In order to use these Third Party Apps within the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi infrastructure, you must provide your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi log in credentials (email address and password) when you launch the Third Party App. This log in information is used only to authenticate you as a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi user and is not accessible to such third parties. If you do not provide the requested log in information, you will not be able to use the Third Party App as part of the Service.
Cisco will only provide information relating to your home network to a third party if you have consented to such sharing by authorizing the Third Party App to use your Service account during the app download process. Some of these Third Party Apps may provide the third party with information about your network or devices in your network or what media you are using in your home. For some Third Party Apps, if you use the app in the manner intended, sharing between the Service and the third party may be required. For example, if you download a media app, the Service may need to share information with the third party about what media content you have in your home network; or if you download a parental control app, the Service may need to share information with the third party about what devices are inside your home network.
You should review and familiarize yourself with the privacy policies of any third party company that provides Third Party Apps for this Service.
Future Features and Services
Linksys Smart Wi-Fi software is updated from time to time to provide additional features, address technical issues, and generally make your user experience better. We may add to or upgrade the Service to provide you with new features on an ongoing basis. We may also make available new services in the future. New services provided by third parties or service providers will be governed by the privacy policies of the respective third party or service provider. The Service automatically checks for updates to the firmware/software to help keep your network running at peak performance and provides alerts as to the latest firmware/software. The auto-update feature offers the ability for the router to download the next available version in the background. Linksys Smart Wi-Fi offers the auto-update feature by default, but you can change your auto-update options by changing your settings within the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi service website or mobile app. In some cases, in order to provide the intended experience and security on your home network, some updates may still be automatically applied, regardless of the auto-update setting. For example, we may provide an automatic update that fixes a security breach to your network.
Your use of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi is also subject to the applicable End User License Agreement and Terms of Service, as well as the overall Cisco Privacy Statement. Please see Support if you have questions about this service.
