Dynamic Random Access Memory Increases
in Cisco 1710 Security Access Router

Effective August 12, 2002, the Cisco 1710 Security Access Router's default dynamic random access memory (DRAM) increases to 64 MB. The Cisco 1710 list price will remain the same.

The Cisco 1710 Security Access Router provides high-performance VPN and firewall solutions to small and medium-sized businesses and enterprise small branch offices. Effective immediately, the default DRAM memory configuration is upgraded from 32 MB to 64 MB, while the Flash memory remains unchanged at 16 MB. The additional 32 MB DRAM is provided in the form of a 32 MB dual in-line memory module (DIMM) that will be inserted in the internal DIMM slot.

Additional DRAM is being provided to ensure the Cisco 1710 Security Access Router will be able to support new versions of Cisco IOS® Software that deliver new and more powerful security features. One feature released recently, Cisco Easy VPN Server and Remote, enables customers to use the Cisco 1710 to terminate VPN tunnels initiated from remote VPN clients. Easy VPN Client simplifies VPN deployments to remote locations by minimizing the amount of configuration steps necessary to support VPNs.

The memory enhancement to the Cisco 1710 will allow customers, resellers, and service providers to benefit from the greater capabilities that Cisco IOS Software offers today and in the future. Investment protection is also increased, because the risk of truck rolls to upgrade the memory is negated.
