The Cisco Aironet Extensions Information Element (IE) is an attribute that

contains information such as the AP name, device type, radio type, AP load, and the number of associated clients in the beacon and probe responses of the WLAN

is used by Cisco devices for better connectivity, and

provides information that Cisco Client Extensions use to associate with the best AP.
Configuration characteristics
The Aironet Extensions IE configuration has the following characteristics:

Configuration is disabled by default

Allows setting the AP name without enabling the whole IE extension by just inserting the AP name

WLAN shutdown is required only when configuring Aironet Extensions (CCX IE) through the CLI. If CCX IE is enabled through the WebUI, WLAN shutdown is not necessary. |
