6 GHz operating class restrictions

These restrictions apply to 6 GHz operation based on the operating class (LPI or SP):

Low Power Indoor (LPI) Access Points

  • FCC regulations restrict Low Power Indoor (LPI) operation to indoor use only.

  • LPI operation is prohibited on oil platforms, cars, trains, boats, and aircraft, except that operation is permitted in large aircraft flying above 10,000 feet in the 5.925-6.425 GHz band.

  • Transmitters in the 5.925-7.125 GHz band are prohibited from operating to control or communicate with unmanned aircraft systems.

Standard Power (SP) Access Points

  • Operation is prohibited on oil platforms, cars, trains, boats, and aircraft.

  • Standard Power operation is permitted only under Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) and in accordance with applicable regulatory grant and deployment requirements.
