Disaster recovery (DR) controller support

Disaster recovery adds another layer of redundancy to safeguard against network downtime. It responds to a cluster failure by handing off network management duties to a connected cluster (referred to as a site going forward).

You can enroll a Catalyst Center that is configured for DR with Catalyst Center Global Manager. DR-enabled Catalyst Centers support both single-node and 3-node deployments.

Catalyst Center Global Manager provides complete visibility into DR information and continues to manage operations without disruption during a failover.

Note:

·       DR is supported in Catalyst Center release 3.2.3 and later. DR-based controllers on earlier Catalyst Center releases are not supported.

·       DR-enabled Catalyst Centers running version 3.2.3 operate only when the enterprise VIP of Catalyst Center is reachable by the Catalyst Center Global Manager.

Base functionality

Air gap mode

Catalyst Center Global Manager supports air gap mode for deployments with no internet access to Cisco cloud services, and high-security environments. However, it must have internal connectivity to Catalyst Center controllers, DNS, NTP, and optional authentication or backup servers for deployment and operation.

Cisco Catalyst Center Global Manager supports management exclusively for air gap-enabled Catalyst Center deployments. It does not support enrolling controllers that are not air gap-enabled within an airgap-based Cisco Catalyst Center Global Manager setup.

Air gap mode is supported on Catalyst Center version 3.3.1 and later.

Catalyst Center Global Manager Global Manager on Azure

Catalyst Center Global Manager on Microsoft Azure provides the full functionality that a Catalyst Center Global Manager appliance deployment offers. Catalyst Center Global Manager on Azure runs in your Azure cloud environment and manages your network from the cloud.

Catalyst Center Global Manager on Ubuntu Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM)

Catalyst Center Global Manager on an Ubuntu KVM host is a deployment model that:

·       provides full functionality of Catalyst Center in a virtual format

·       allows rapid deployment of Catalyst Center in your network environment, and

·       allows you to evaluate Catalyst Center without purchasing a physical appliance.

Enhancements to End-of-life (EOL) Devices

For Catalyst Center Global Manager version 1.5.1, the End-of-Life Devices table introduces a new optional column labeled “controller,” which displays the name of the controller. This addition enhances the visibility of controller information within the devices table.

To view the End-of-Life (EoL) of each device, navigate to the Catalyst Center Global Manager dashboard and click Device Infrastructure > End-of-life Devices.

Enhancements to Device Health

For Catalyst Center Global Manager version 1.5.1, the Device Health table introduces a new optional column labeled “controller,” which displays the name of the controller. This addition enhances the visibility of controller information within the devices table.

To view the health of each device, navigate to the Catalyst Center Global Manager dashboard and click Device Infrastructure > Health.

Enhancements to Situational Dashboard

For Catalyst Center Global Manager version 1.5.1, the situational dashboard has these enhancements:

·       for each of the Top N Access Points (Aps), the cross-launch link is enabled that takes you to the APs respective controller Device 360 page.

·       for Network Services, each controller IP has a cross-launch link enabled that takes you to the respective controller page.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

Catalyst Center Global Manager supports only global scoped sites with RBAC role-managed Catalyst Center. It does not support site-based RBAC with non-global scope in Catalyst Center.
