Base functionality

Controller backup

The Controller backup feature offers a centralized and aggregate view of your environment. It allows you to monitor backup status, schedule single or bulk backups for the selected controllers, configure backup settings, and troubleshoot backup failures through cross-launch to the controller.

Note: The Controller backup page displays only enrolled controllers that are not in an error state. Pending controllers are not shown.

Key features:

·       Centralized monitoring: View the backup status of all enrolled controllers in one location.

·       Status-based filtering: Filter controllers by their current backup state, including Failed, Not configured, No backup data, In progress, and Success. The Last backup status displays only Success, Failed, or In progress, and excludes secondary statuses such as Canceled or Deleting.

·       Progressive loading: Displays data as controllers respond, ensuring you receive updates as they become available.

·       Error reporting: View detailed error reports in the loading error list for any controllers that fail to retrieve the backup details.

·       Cross-launch capabilities: Easily navigate to specific controller interfaces to perform advanced management tasks.

Ease of use

Pending controllers

Catalyst Center Global Manager has enhanced the management of pending controller connections:

·       Warning indicators: Controllers in the Pending connection status are now clearly highlighted with new warning indicators in the controller list, allowing for immediate identification.

·       Filtering capabilities: A new View pending controller(s) option has been added to the table filter. This allows you to filter the list to focus exclusively on pending connections.

·       Editable fields: You now have the flexibility to edit all fields associated with a controller while it remains in the Pending connection status.

·       Streamlined enrollment: If no modifications are made to the controller fields, the system enables the Complete enrollment option. Selecting this option redirects you to the Catalyst Center to finalize the enrollment process.

Ease of use

Enhancements to Situational dashboards

The Situational Dashboards let you create custom dashboards by selecting up to 15 of the 32 pre-built dashlets available in Catalyst Center Global Manager. Each dashboard is specific to an individual user.

Key functionalities include:

·       Dedicated creation interface: A new menu option provides access to the dashboard creation page.

·       Custom dashboard creation: Users can assign a unique name to each new dashboard.

·       Flexible dashlet integration: Up to 15 dashlets can be added to a single dashboard at once.

·       Organized dashlet selection: Dashlets are grouped logically by category or section for easy discovery and selection.

·       Progressive loading: The Situational Dashboard page displays progressive loading as data loads. If an error occurs while fetching data, an error alert appears on the page.

·       Dashboard selection: A selector drop-down allows switching between situational dashboards.

Enhancements to End-of-life devices

The End-of-life (EoL) devices feature provides information about Cisco devices that have reached or are approaching their EoL status. It includes critical hardware and software expiration dates to assist with lifecycle management. This feature parallels the EoX (End-of-Life) functionality in Catalyst Center, delivering comprehensive reports on device lifecycle milestones to support product upgrade and replacement planning.

Note: This feature is in beta.

To use this feature, Catalyst Centers managed by Catalyst Center Global Manager must be upgraded to a release later than 2.3.7.10 or 3.1.5.

Base functionality enhancement

Enhancements to Data export

The data export feature in Catalyst Center Global Manager allows you to export all the table data by generating CSV files containing all matching records. You can apply filters to refine the data before exporting. The export process runs in the background, and upon completion, and upon completion, you can download the CSV file. The GUI displays only the five most recent exports per user. These recent exports are accessible via the Download Report tab, even after logging off or session timeout.

Currently, export functionality is supported only for the Device Health table under Device Infrastructure > Health. You can run one export at a time. The export files are retained for three days before automatic pruning. Export duration may vary depending on record volume, server load, and network latency. You can also cancel an in-progress export. This feature enhances data accessibility and management efficiency within Catalyst Center Global Manager.

Catalyst Center Global Manager on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Catalyst Center Global Manager on AWS is a deployment model that allows you to run the full functionality of Catalyst Center Global Manager within your AWS cloud environment to manage your network.

You can deploy Catalyst Center Global Manager on AWS using AWS CloudFormation template.

Unsupported features

Catalyst Center Global Manager does not support IPv6, FIPS, the Disaster Recovery variant of Catalyst Center, or air-gapped clusters.

Limitation with Webex notifications

The Webex notification for events does not show controller names or controller IDs.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

Catalyst Center Global Manager supports only global scoped sites with RBAC role-managed Catalyst Center. It does not support site-based RBAC with non-global scope in Catalyst Center.
