Description

After upgrading the Splunk app for DB Connect from version 3.9 to 3.12.x or higher, a below error arises during the execution of SQL queries. This error is linked to the loading of checkpoints for inputs and suggests a problem with the checkpoint key value in the db_input.conf file for each input. The specific error message is:

ERROR c.s.d.server.dbinput.task.DbInputCheckpointManager - error loading checkpoint for input

Investigation

Validate the ERROR log using below SPL command:

index=_internal sourcetype="dbx*" error

The below error should be shown in the internal logs:

ERROR c.s.d.server.dbinput.task.DbInputCheckpointManager - error loading checkpoint for input

To resolve this issue, please follow the steps mentioned in the Resolution.

Resolution

Step 1: Check /opt/splunk/etc/apps/splunk_app_db_connect/local/Db_inputs.conf and verify if the checkpoint_key is present or not.

Step 2: Need to remove or comment on the "checkpoint_key" parameter from /opt/splunk/etc/apps/splunk_app_db_connect/local/Db_inputs.conf file.

Step 3: Restart Splunk services.
