This document describes how the Cisco Information Server (CIS) Data Virtualization (DV) installer for Release 6.2 and newer and is of interest for those who maintain multiple instances of CIS on a host.
How does the Installer Determine Which Port to Use?
When the installer determines which port should be used for a new install when prior CIS installs are detected on the host, the installer looks through the Windows Zero-G registry file, located in C:\Program Files\Zero G Registry\.com.zerog.registry.xml, or the Linux or Unix Java preferences file, located in $HOME/.java/.systemPrefs/Composite Software/prefs.xml. These files are used to locate CIS installs that currently exist.
When the installer locates the installs, you scan the /conf/server/server_values.xml file from each install and find out which ports have already been allocated. Choose the highest base port and add 10 to the base port. This establishes the new base port for the new install in progress.
