This document describes the purpose of the Test Connection button in the Info tab of any datasource resource in the Cisco Information Server (CIS).
If the datasource Test Connection button works, will queries also work?
The CIS user guide states: "Click Test Connection to test the connection between CIS and the datasource."
Datasources that point to a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) server, such as Oracle or Sybase:
When you click the Test Connection button, CIS opens a Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) connection to the database server. If the Test button works, a connection is successfully opened and CIS can send queries.
Other datasource types, such as LDAP: When you click the Test Connection button, CIS pins the hostname to make sure that the host is accessible over the network. CIS does not attempt to connect to the host. If the Test button works successfully, that does not indicate that CIS can connect to your server. It only means that CIS verifies that the host that the server runs on can be reached.
