Overview
It is standard methodology for Cisco Systems to perform system-wide testing of the Cisco Unified Communications family of products, supplementing the product-level testing performed on each Cisco Unified Communications product. This document provides release notes for the testing conducted on systems composed of the following types of components:

Call control components, such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express, and Cisco Unified Presence
•
Voice applications, such as Cisco Emergency Responder
•
Conferencing components, such as Cisco Unified MeetingPlace, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express, and Cisco Unified Videoconferencing
•

The Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) module was tested in inline mode only as against to the promiscuous mode in 7.0(1) release.

Cisco Unified SIP Proxy—The following features were tested:

Supplementary services, interaction with main site applications like Cisco Unity, Cisco Unified Meeting Place and Cisco Unified Meeting Place Express to exchange mails in Cisco Unity and attend meetings hosted by central site meeting applications

–
SIP calls between Unified Communications Manager Express and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Phone through 5800 PSTN and Unified SIP Proxy

Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Unified Communications Manager Release 7.1(2a) includes the following changes and updates to functionality:

Logical Partitioning— The Logical Partitioning feature specifies the capability of a telephony system to control calls and features on the basis of specific allowed or forbidden configurations. A common telephony system can provide access to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN), and configuration can control access. Logical partitioning specifies a call control feature in Cisco Unified Communications Manager that provides functionality, so communication between the following pairs of VoIP entities can be controlled:

A VoIP phone and a VoIP gateway
–
A VoIP gateway and another VoIP gateway
–
An intercluster trunk and a VoIP phone
–
An intercluster trunk and a VoIP gateway

Cisco Unified Presence
Unified Presence Server Release 7.0(4) includes the following changes and updates to functionality:

Post-Upgrade Requirement for Cisco Unified Presence 7.0(4) with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Versions Prior to 7.1(2)—While upgrading to Cisco Unified Presence 7.0(4) with Cisco Unified Communications Manager version prior to 7.1(2), the Disaster Recovery System will not work initially after upgrading. •
Update to the Microsoft Office Communicator Call Control Feature—Cisco Unified Presence Release 7.0(4) includes an update to the Microsoft Office Communicator call control feature that impacts users. This update applies to the User Guide for Cisco IP Phone Messenger and Cisco Unified Presence Release 7.0
•
Support for OpenLDAP Servers—supports OpenLDAP servers for use with Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
•
Server-Side Failback for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator Clients—Cisco Unified Presence 7.0(4) provides server-side failback as a new scalability and high-availability feature. Server-side failback uses the same throttle mechanism as server failover.
•
SIP Proxy Restart Required—When changing the control CTI address of a desk phone and while controlling MOC-RCC after an L2 upgrade.

Cisco Unified SIP Proxy
Cisco Unified SIP Proxy is designed to help connect and manage SIP networks. The Cisco Unified SIP Proxy module is designed to be an integrated solution in Cisco 3800 Series Integrated Services Routers (Cisco ISRs). The module provides multiple features including name resolution, routing, scalability, and high availability.
Cisco Unified SIP Proxy Release 1.1.3 includes the following changes and updates to functionality:
•
Cisco Unified SIP Proxy uses Netconf to perform IOS configuration validation at startup. Netconf over SSH is the only supported mechanism. Support for Netconf over BEEP has been removed.
•
New configuration commands have been added to configure ip routes to facilitate support for multiple network interfaces.

Cisco Unity Express
Cisco Unity Express Release 7.1 includes the following changes and updates to functionality:

Cisco Unity Connection
Cisco Unity Connection Release 7.1(2a) includes the following changes and updates to functionality:

COBRAS Support for Migrating from Cisco Unity for Domino—COBRAS, the tool used to migrate from Cisco Unity to Cisco Unity Connection, supports exporting data from Cisco Unity when Domino is the message store.

Digital Networking—Up to ten Cisco Unity Connection servers can be joined to form a digital network.
•
Fax Support for VPIM Networking with Cisco Unity Express and Cisco Unified Messaging Gateway—Cisco Unity Connection and Connection in Cisco Unified Communication Manager Business Edition support using VPIM Networking to send and receive fax messages to Cisco Unity Express and Cisco Unified Messaging Gateway.

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace
Cisco Unified Communications MeetingPlace 7.0 MR1 includes the following changes and updates to functionality:

IBM Lotus Sametime Web Conference Integration—With the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace for IBM Lotus Sametime Web Conference integration, you can provide Sametime users with integrated web and audio conferencing capabilities. The Sametime infrastructure provides the web conference, and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace serves as the audio bridge. Users schedule and attend meetings from the Sametime Meeting Center, and the Sametime Meeting Room provides the integrated roster and in-session controls. You can view and manage the audio meeting provided by Cisco Unified MeetingPlace through the MeetingPlace Conference Manager
•
Capacity Management Reports—The following capacity management reports are now available in the Administration Center:

Unattended Ports Report—Shows what percentage of scheduled ports were not used during a specified time range. The output can help you determine the appropriate settings for your overbook and floater ports.

Monthly Usage Report—Shows the number of minutes per month that were used for conferencing on the system

Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator 7.0(2) includes the following new features:

Basic support for Cisco WebEx meetings—You can configure Cisco Unified Personal Communicator to launch an unscheduled web conference from the audio or video conversation window using Cisco Webex.
•
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator is now available in the following languages: Chinese (Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Russian, Swedish all for both Windows and Mac OS X. Arabic is also available for Microsoft Windows.

Cisco UC Integration™ for Microsoft Office Communicator
Cisco Unified Communications Integration™ for Microsoft Office Communicator provides seamless collaboration with Cisco Unified Communications and Microsoft instant messaging (IM) and Presence capabilities.
It extends proven Cisco Unified Communications services to Microsoft Office Communicator with a single easy-to-manage communications platform. This provides interoperability with Microsoft Office Communicator Server 2007 (OCS) and Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC) client. Cisco UC Integration™ for Microsoft Office Communicator uses the Client Services Framework (CSF) and incorporates it into a tab integration of Microsoft Office Communicator. This tab integration allows for the use of audio telephony of existing Cisco Unified Communications Manager endpoints, acting both as a softphone (softphone mode) and controlling a Cisco Unified IP Phone (desk phone mode).

Cisco Unified Videoconferencing 3545 Media Conferencing Unit (MCU)
The Cisco Unified Videoconferencing 3500 Series products are multipoint video conferencing and media processing systems that provide extensive audio and video processing capabilities and web-based conference monitoring and management. They support a wide range of telephony protocols and media communication networks and are interoperable with other video conferencing network devices.
Cisco Unified Videoconferencing 3500 Gateway Release 5.7 introduces these features:
•
You can now set the TCS4 timeout to up to 120 seconds to improve ISDN endpoint connectivity in TCS4 calls
•
Support for sending Alert Message to the PSTN side with a ringback field that is NOT empty.
•
Source number display in voice calls from the ISDN side.

Cisco Unified IP Phone Support
The following features and functionality are introduced in phone firmware release 8.5(2):
•
Secure Icon—Beginning with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 7.1(2), Cisco Unified Communications Manager will use a different method of calculating which Security icon to send to Cisco Unified IP Phones. Both video stream (if applicable) and audio stream are involved in the calculation that Cisco Unified Communications Manager makes to determine which Security icon the phones should display.
•
802.1x EAP-FAST Authentication—Firmware release 8.5(2) introduces EAP-FAST authentication mechanism to authenticate a phone to the network. In addition, this feature allows the system administrator to control the 802.1x status of the phone from the Cisco Unified Communications Manager phone administration page, or allows the user to control the status from the phone configuration window.
•
IPv6 Support—IPv6 supports Cisco Unified IP Phones (SCCP only) for firmware release 8.5(2). For additional information, see Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).
•
Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing—Cisco Unified Communications Manager release 7.1(2) introduces Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing. The user can initiate Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing while conferencing a call, while transferring a call, or while placing a new call after putting a call on hold.
Note
The phone must be assigned a softkey set that includes the AbbrDial softkey before it can be used. The softkey can be assigned by using the Softkey Template Configuration for the following states—Offhook, Offhook with Feature, and Digits After First.
•
Test Tone—Cisco Unified IP Phones support a "test tone," which allows administrators to troubleshoot echo on a call as well as to test lost plan volume levels
•
Cisco Unified IP Phone models 6921, 6941, and 6961—with 2, 4, and 12 lines respectively is introduced with the Unified Communications System Release 7.1(2) release. These phone models are intended for cost sensitive customers as a replacement for analog phones (TDM) used in small and medium business or emerging markets. These phones can replace the existing Cisco Unified IP Phones 7911, 7940, and 7960. The main feature of these phone models is a "single call per line button" with consult call allowed. In this case each line button supports only a single call session, and whenever the user invokes a transfer or conference, Cisco Unified Communications Manager will use the consult allowed feature to establish the conference or transfer the session. However, a new incoming call will always be presented on a new line button.

Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage/Mobile Communicator
Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage Release 7.0(2) includes the following new features:
•
Support for Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator Release 7.0 for Nokia Symbian phones.
•
Support for a wider range of Windows Mobile phones.
•
Support for certain Cisco Media Convergence Servers series 7825
•
When you configure connections to enterprise servers in Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage, a new "Test Config" button allows you to immediately verify that your entered values are valid.
•
You can now specify the format in which phone numbers appear in your Active Directory, so that user call logs can identify phone numbers by name even if the numbers in Active Directory do not follow the North American Numbering Plan.
•
On the Add/Remove User page, user IDs are now listed along with first and last names, allowing you to distinguish between identically-named users.

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(2) supports a very specific implementation of IPv6 which may or may not meet enterprise customer requirements. Therefore, we require that enterprise customers interested in deploying IPv6 in their lab or production environments utilize the Controlled Release Process as below:

An application will be sent back to you for review and completion.

Send back to ipv6release@cisco.com for review and approval.

Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Firewall Services Module (FWSM)
Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Firewall Services Module Release 4.0(4) introduces the following new features and functionality:

PISA integration—The FWSM can leverage the high-performance deep packet inspection of the PISA card so that it can permit or deny traffic based on the application type.
Note
This feature depends on Cisco IOS Release 12.2(18)ZYA or later, and is only available on the Catalyst 6500 switch.
•
Route Health Injection—Route Health Injection, or RHI, is used for injecting the connected routes, static routes, and NAT addresses configured on the FWSM into the MSFC routing table. In multiple context mode, this feature is especially valuable because of the lack of dynamic routing protocol support. The MSFC can then redistribute the route to other routing tables.

This feature depends on Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SXI or later, and is only available on the Catalyst 6500 switch.

Virtual Switching System (VSS) support—VSS is a system virtualization technology that allows the pooling of multiple Catalyst 6500 switches into a single virtual switch. If you have the FWSM installed, FWSM traffic benefits from this feature. There is no configuration on the FWSM required.

Cisco IOS 12.4(23) Mainline
The majority of Cisco Unified Communications Release 7.1(2) system testing was performed using Cisco IOS Release 12.4(24)T1. However, automated testing of basic call functionality and additional load testing were performed using the Cisco IOS Release 12.4(23) Mainline. Because Cisco IOS Mainline releases do not support many of the calling features found in Cisco IOS T releases, this additional testing involved only basic call functionality between IP phones and IP phones to PSTN endpoints.
Testing was performed using the following voice/data gateways:

Deployment Considerations
The tables in this section list the recommended software and firmware releases based on Cisco Unified Communications Release 7.1(2). Note that not every rebuild is tested as part of Cisco Unified Communications. Therefore, additional regression testing in a customer or Cisco-specific certification lab is recommended before deployment.
When deploying IP Communications in a customer environment, please remember the following:

At the minimum, customers should deploy the software release recommended in these tables.
•
For CSA, customers should use the latest engine and policy release. CSA software is available at:

When you configure ISR 38xx routers for Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) or Unified Communications Manager Express, the minimum RAM required is 512MB. If the RAM is less than 512 MB, the router becomes non responsive and voice calls will start to fail, and the memory allocation failure and tracebacks are logged in the buffer.
HP SCSI Hard Drive Firmware Update
The HP SCSI hard drive firmware update issue addresses the following defects:

CSCse71185: Certain HP Ultra320 SCSI HDs May Exhibit Reduced Perf and Timeouts
A ProLiant server configured with any of the HP Ultra320 SCSI hard drives listed in HP Customer Advisory #C00677430 (available at http://www.hp.com) may exhibit reduced performance or have excessive timeouts. This performance issue is caused by the dynamically adjusted seek time profile table in the drive firmware after it becomes degraded.
When this problem occurs, the reduced performance is characterized by occasional brief delays in command response time while servicing random workloads and in severe cases the drive may exhibit command timeouts, which requires a server reboot for recovery.
CSCse71295: HP FW Recommended to Min Potential for Media Errors on Certain SCSI HD
A ProLiant server configured with any of the HP Ultra320 SCSI hard drives listed in HP Customer Advisory #C00542020 (available at http://www.hp.com) may report media errors or illuminate the drive fault LED. The corrected firmware version (HPB4 or later) reduces the hard drive idle time that could potentially lead to build-up of media lubricant on the disk surface or drive head, causing the drives to report media errors or illuminate the drive fault LED.
CSCso98836: HP Ultra320 SCSI HDD FW Upgrade
A ProLiant server configured with any of the HP Ultra320 SCSI hard drives listed in HP Customer Advisory #C00859596 (available at http://www.hp.com) may exhibit timeouts and SCSI downshifts.
These problems may occur on the following server models:

The affected hard drives for these problems are listed in the associated HP Customer Advisories. However, the Cisco provided HP SCSI Hard Drive Firmware Update CD can be applied to all listed server types and the impacted drives will be updated if applicable.
To update the firmware to a Cisco tested level, use the Cisco provided HP SCSI Hard Drive Firmware Update CD released simultaneous to the Unified Communications 7.0(1) system release. For more details on installing the firmware, see the README.txt file for HP SCSI Hard Drive Firmware Update CD.

Unity deployment with multiple exchange server does not work with CUPM (CSCso65108)
Cisco Unified Provisioning Manager (CUPM) can be used to create mailboxes only on the default mailstore in partner exchange server and cannot be used to create mailboxes in exchange servers other than the partner exchange server. This is a limitation for enterprise customers with Unified messaging system and many voicemail deployments with more than one exchange servers in their network.
To workaround this issue, move the mailboxes to the desired mailstore in desired exchange server using Microsoft Exchange task Wizard.
Unable to provision trunks, MGCP GW, VM ports and Media resources (CSCso66982)
Cisco Unified Provisioning Manager provides a reliable and scalable Web-based solution for managing a your next-generation communications services in an integrated IP telephony, voicemail, and messaging environment including:

High CPU Utilization Causing Call Failures (CSCsr56225)
Robert/Tim, This defect is in C state. Can we remove this defect from the RNs?
For the Cisco 2801, 2851, and 7200 Series routers with Cisco IOS image 12.4(20)T, a higher CPU utilization is causing call failures.
Currently, there is no workaround for this problem.
Firewall Services Module (FWSM) does not support TCP SACK option (CSCeb1675, CSCsr81535, and CSCsi54863)
The following defects are related to the lack of SACK support in the FWSM:
•
CSCeb16752: Support TCP selective ACK for TCP connection - TCP SACK option
•
CSCsr81535: CUCM SDL Links go out of service under load with seq# rand and SACK data
•
CSCsi54863: FWSM: new MPC command to clear TCP Sack-Permitted option in 3WHS - SACK
The Firewall Services Module (FWSM) does not support the TCP SACK option, which means that the sequence numbers carried in the TCP SACK option are not randomized the same way the normal TCP sequence numbers are randomized as they cross FWSM. Due to this issue the sequence numbers carried in the TCP SACK option will appear corrupted to the TCP end points and may reject these packets. This issue is documented in CSCeb16752.
Many TCP end points, among others like the Cisco Unified Communication Manager and Cisco Unified Presence Server support the TCP SACK option to speed up data transfer in case of packet loss. If two such end points establish a TCP session through the FWSM, they will agree during the 3-way handshake to use the TCP SACK option in case of a packet loss. However, if there is packet loss and the end points attempt to use TCP SACK option, they will encounter the problem described in CSCeb16752 and the TCP session may fail. One such instance of a failure is captured in CSCsr81535, where the SDL link between two Cisco Unified Communication Managers went out of service due to this issue.
A workaround to this problem was introduced through the defect CSCsi54863. The no sysopt connection tcp sack-permitted command in global configuration mode will instruct the FWSM to modify the TCP packets during the 3-way handshake as if the TCP end points did not support the TCP SACK option. This way the end points will not attempt to use the TCP SACK option and so the lack of support for this option in the FWSM will not cause any problems.
Note
The no sysopt connection tcp sack-permitted command does not work for pre-allocated connections. Pre-allocated connections are connections opened by an inspect. In Unified Communications, the H.323/H.225 and the SIP inspects may open pre-allocated TCP connections. This means that calls that rely on H.323 or SIP signaling crossing and FWSM may still experience intermittent call failures despite applying the workaround described in the defects.
Resolved Caveats
