Obtaining Documentation and Submitting a Service Request
The Cisco MDS Log Parser is a web-based application designed to automate the process of parsing showtech files to uncover common errors and warnings.
Log Parser offers a simple user interface and accepts show tech-support file as input. The tool slices and dices the raw content of a showtech file into an easy-to-navigate and easy-to-read summary report of switch health, providing the ability to drill down into specific parameters. It also highlights problems or errors and suggests workarounds wherever possible.
The MDS Log Parser has the following tabs and features:
To upload a show tech-support file, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Using a web browser, log on to https://mds-log-parser.cisco.com.
Step 2 Click Browse to navigate to the location where the show tech-support file resides, and select the show tech-support file.
Note Note: Log Parser accepts either show tech-support file or the same file in compressed (gzip) format as input.
Step 3 Click Upload to upload the file to the MDS Log Parser application server.
The time taken to upload a files depends on the size of the show tech-support file and the speed of your Internet connection.
Step 4 Click Parse Log to parse and analyze the logs.
After parsing the show tech-support file, Log Parser opens the System Details tab.
To view the system details, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Select the System Details tab to access the features on the left pane.
When you click on any of the features in the left pane, information pertaining to that feature is displayed on the contents pane.
Step 2 Click System Info to view the device information and the module status report.
Step 3 Click Upgrade History to view the software upgrade and downgrade history.
Step 4 Click Features and Licenses to view the list of features that are enabled on the switch and the licenses that are configured on the switch.
To view the system errors, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Select the System Errors tab to access the features on left pane.
When you click on any of the features in the left pane, information pertaining to that feature is displayed on the contents pane.
Step 2 Click Exceptions to view the exceptions that occurred in the switch.
Step 3 Click Service Failures to view information service failures or any abnormal processes.
Step 4 Click Software Mismatch to view information on software mismatch on any of module of the switch.
Step 5 Click Internal Packet Drops to view information on the packet flow drops.
Step 6 Click Port-channel Status to view the PortChannel status report.
Step 7 Click SME Configuration to view information on the SME cluster configuration.
To view the system warnings, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Select the System Warnings tab to access the features on the left pane.
When you click on any of the features in the left pane, information pertaining to that feature is displayed on the contents pane.
Step 2 Click Alerts and Advisories to view alerts and advisories on software.
Step 3 Click Best-Practices to view the recommended best practices for common issues that might have occurred in the switch.
Step 4 Click Zone Size to view information on the zone size and the recommenced action for optimal hardware utilization.
Step 5 Click Memory and CPU Limits to view the flash memory usage on the active supervisor, CPU utilization report, and the module TCAM usage status report.
Step 6 Click MTS Buffer to view check the buffer counter threshold.
Step 7 Click Communications to view the IPC communication channel.
Step 8 Click Locks to view information on the CFS lock and the zone lock.
Step 9 Click Failed Interfaces to view information on the failed interfaces.
Step 10 Click Link Flaps to view information on the interfaces that have flapped.
Step 11 Click Interface Counters to view the interface counters and the buffer to buffer credit.
To view the system logs, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Select the System Logs tab to access the features on the left pane.
When you click on any of the features in the left pane, information pertaining to that feature is displayed on the contents pane.
Step 2 Click Syslog Logs to view the last 50 lines of the logs.
Step 3 Click Accounting Logs to view the last 50 commands from the accounting logs.
To download the summary of reports in the HTML format, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Select the Download tab.
A window appear prompting to open or save the file. Choose an option from the new window and click OK.
