Problem Description


The Cisco IOS XR Software on specific Cisco 8711-32FH-M routers needs to be updated due to an update in the applicable software development kit (SDK). To ensure seamless operation, customers should upgrade to one of the recommended software releases listed in the Workaround/Solution section of this field notice. 


Background


As part of ongoing development, the SDK has been updated. Using the recommended software releases helps to ensure all deployed systems remain operational with the updated SDK. 


Problem Symptom


Cisco 8711-32FH-M routers that are running a Cisco IOS XR release earlier than Release 25.4.2 may encounter interface failure, which could result in no traffic flow.

Routers that are not running a recommended release may display the following error:

Workaround/Solution


Cisco recommends upgrading all devices, regardless of current status, to Cisco IOS XR Release 25.4.2 or, preferably, to Release 26.1.2 or later. This upgrade helps prevent errors that may arise from running earlier software releases, ensures optimal performance, and enhances the stability of the system.

Note: Cisco strongly recommends not downgrading to any software release earlier than Cisco IOS XR Release 25.4.2 because doing so may cause errors like the one shown in the Problem Symptom section of this field notice.
