Problem Description


Cisco has introduced a hardware component update for Cisco Catalyst IE-3100-18T2C-E and IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E Switches. Due to this update, these switches require specific minimum software releases to operate correctly. Attempts to boot the updated switches with earlier software releases will fail, and downgrading to earlier releases is not supported. 


Background


To support ongoing product improvements, Cisco has updated an internal hardware component in Cisco Catalyst IE-3100-18T2C-E and IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E Switches. This update does not alter device performance, power consumption, or physical specifications. The updated hardware requires specific minimum software releases to function properly. 


Problem Symptom


Affected Cisco Catalyst IE-3100-18T2C-E and IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E Switches with the updated hardware will not boot if loaded with Cisco IOS XE Software releases earlier than Release 17.15.5, 17.18.2, or 26.1.1. Devices will not complete initialization and will not become operational.


Workaround/Solution


Solution

Affected Cisco Catalyst IE-3100-18T2C-E and IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E Switches must run Cisco IOS XE Software Release 17.15.5 or later, 17.18.2 or later, or 26.1.1 or later. Downgrading to earlier releases is not supported and will render devices non-functional. Software downloads and upgrade instructions are available at the Cisco Software Download Center. Return Materials Authorization (RMA) is not recommended.
