CSCwn60346 | NCS5500 Integration of new SSD Model |
Certain Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 5500 products, as mentioned in the Products Affected section of this filed notice, require a software maintenance upgrade (SMU). These devices will not display the solid state drive (SSD) firmware details as part of the show hw-module fpd command without the required software release or SMU. There will be no functionality impact.
To address the supply continuity of the SSD component, Cisco plans to release a new update for the products. This firmware release display will be supported by Cisco IOS XR Software releases 24.3.20, 24.4.2, and later.
For earlier Cisco IOS XR Software releases, an SMU must be installed.
There will be no functional impact, but the CLI output display will be incomplete.
The following is sample output for Cisco NC57-MOD-S without an SMU or that is running a Cisco IOS XR Software release earlier than Release 24.3.20 or Release 24.4.2:

When the show hw-module location 0/x fpd command is run, the SSD firmware details will be missing in the output because the SMU is not installed.

Solution
To support the new release, Cisco NCS 5500 products that are running IOS XR Software release earlier than 24.3.20 and 24.4.2 require SMU to be installed:
Option 1. Install the required SMU
Cisco IOS XR Software Release | SMU Name | SMU Type |
---|---|---|
7.11.21 | ncs5500-sysadmin-7.11.21.CSCwn60346.tar | Hitless |
7.10.2 | ncs5500-sysadmin-7.10.2.CSCwn60346.tar | Hitless |
24.1.2 | ncs5500-sysadmin-24.1.2.CSCwn60346.tar | Hitless |
After the SMU installation, the Field Programmable Device (FPD) will be visible and programmable.
Option 2. Perform an upgrade
Upgrade Cisco IOS XR Software to Release 24.3.20, Release 24.4.2, or later.
To identify affected products, look for SOLIDIGM SSDSCKKB240GZ or SOLIDIGM SSDSCKKB480GZ in the output of the show smart-monitor location all command.
The following is sample output for a 240G SSD:
